I am doing this insane circuit workout which makes me sweat like a pig. So I frequent the water fountain where I wipe my face with a towel and usually wash out the lactic acid from my mouth before I drink. What I mean by that is I swoosh a bit of water in my mouth and spit it out, not blowing my nose or making crazy noises or anything. Then I take a drink. That's what I was doing today and this hoochie mama went nuts! Starts yelling at me, striking those oh-no-you-didn't poses, etc. I don't waste my time on people who resort to shouting rather than talking so I said "well you're yelling at me so I suggest you deal with your emotional issues elsewhere" and walked away to continue my workout. She went straight up to the gym management and told on me, yelling all the way down to the management office. Nobody from the management came to talk to me about it.
Later a couple of guys came up to me and said they do exactly what I did and some of them have been told by the rare women in the gym that it's gross or whatever.
Now the issue on the table. Is what I did considered a gym taboo? I understand that washing out your arm pits and blowing your nose into the water fountain is straight up disrespectful but I kinda feel that quietly washing out my mouth doesn't fall into that category. When you drink from the water fountain you don't consume all the water, most of it runs back into the drain, effectively have run thru your mouth.
