They are going to sell everything out so the 1:20,000 ratios won't matter to them. If they have paysites you can probably expect them to be selling them very soon.

The ones who are fighting it are demonstrating that they are in the industry for the long term, not just get rich quick and leave the adult market.
I cannot comment on 1 and 2 but I can on #3. I know the owners of a tube site - I actually had a lot to do with the tube scene - and I can say that they're not exiting by any means. There is a lot of long term thought put into it. The paysite model is in jeopardy and it is a good idea to look into other means of monetizing porn. For some that means tubes.

If I were to start at zero again I would not look into a paysite by any means. The internet as a whole is changing and this time the adult biz is not the catalyst. The adult biz is not even playing catch up! The tubes are jumping on the bad-wagon while everyone else is grasping at yesterday.

Go ahead and sue the tubes. Win even. It will change very little about the state of the net and adult's place in it.

Just out of interest, what way of monetizing porn in terms of $ / viewer / customer is more profitable than to tease him and let him pay for the porn he actually needs?

Legal tubes are nothing more than TGP's where the video is in one chunk, it's a promo tool, I don't see there much evolution unless it's crooks who push there full length vids burning shitload of bandwith, receiving checks from cams and dating and hiding behind DMCA and outside US pseudo company.

Playing catch up when the industry starts cannibalizing itself only end up with eating your own hands and feet sooner or later...what's next? Paysites giving access to hacked livecams streams to attract visitors? Let's fuck over each other and see who's the last man standing?

It's a competition for traffic, the more you give away for free, the more traffic you get...but the less money you make per visitor. So, the solution is give away even more, which means the value of a visitor is decreasing even faster? I wasn't good at maths, but it's no rocket science that there aren't any winners in this game long term.

Unless they got some hope about mainstream ad money going to adult tube sites, then I can´t think of adult tube sites going any place but downhill income wise. Sure BW might drop to almost nothing, and content owners might be unable to shut them down, but that will just mean an influx of new tube sites... so yeah, make your money today, and forget about tomorrow, because it will not belong to even the current tube sites.

Most people will be surprised how quickly things change once most people realize that their current income model is fucked, because most people will copy the successful ones in hope of saving themself, but it will just mean that the race to the bottom will increase, because it erodes the success which was still there.

That's not going to happen. But it always makes me chuckle when I come across people who think that "ad money" will save them, and pay their bandwidth bill in the end.

Yeah, that's why I asked at the start, someone show me what is the magic formula of monetizing and persuade people to pay for something they don't look for instead of what they are looking for.

You're right. At this point in time anyone who can answer that question is not going to throw it out into the public eye. I have not answered it myself but I aspire to.

I cannot see a player entering the game giving a shit about how the competition feels. In the case of the tube sites they want to make money and they're doing it, and if that hurts the other guys I cannot see them caring. The other guys want the tubes to hurt.

Looking at the state of porn I see the following:

                        • Tube sites came about following XTube's release in 2005 and fucked everyone' head up.
                        • People got pissed at stolen content and PornoTube and XTube responded.
                        • A bunch of other tubes popped up overseas where they do not need to follow the DMCA and don't care about the 2257 issue.
                        • Everyone wants the tubes gone, even Dave (who owns DVD tube).
                        • People say to boycott the advertisers who advert on the tubes (Dave contacted me at XTube to advertise there in 3 separate emails) but the advertisers PAY money so no one will turn them away.
                        • Tubes remain open.

If you ask yourself why the advertisers spend 6 figures / month on these tube sites you have to come the realization that the users are clicking and converting enough to justify the expense. So that leads me to believe that the users are not hung up on the free or not free option, but instead they're evolving their interests. They want the free shit and they want what's being advertised.

I had numerous webmasters contact me directly when XTube shut down WM accounts because their promos were converting for them and they wanted that money still. The users will buy your porn if they can get to it. Yes, they will look at the free shit and when that free shit leads to something they really like, they will pay for it if they have to.

Do you have what the user is willing to pay for?

I doubt they convert anything close to what advertisers are paying, people see lots of traffic and assume its money. Quality of traffic is more important than quantity. People dont go to a tube with full scenes with credit card in hand dont have too.
This will end the whole porn is a recession proof business, you can jerk off to full scenes for free. Money can be used for something else.

Just interested in what legal standing you guys may have to go after the tube sites who don't use stolen content and try to remain webmaster friendly.

The guys using stolen content, and even charging to access it (megarotic springs to mind) good job, but there are legit tubes out there.

Why go after them if they arent using others content? If they want to give their own work or licensed work they bought away its up to them. Dont think they will be around for long. Freeloader traffic only pays the bills for so long.
Also everyone is just discounting governments will do nothing, porn isnt mainstream tv. Governments work very slow but once we are in the gun sights because this will get so fucking out of hand. The shit will start flowing hard. Even if its just the good ol usa considering its 60 percent of the porn buying public it can really suck.

However is will not bring the traffic flooding back like some think.

Generally speaking the way we treat our customers and have done for the last 8 years is pretty poor. We need to put that right as well as stopping people from stealing. Give the customer a product he's willing to pay for at a price he wants to pay and stop thinking he can be forced to buy is my message.

? Tube sites came about following XTube's release in 2005 and fucked everyone' head up.
? People got pissed at stolen content and PornoTube and XTube responded.
? A bunch of other tubes popped up overseas where they do not need to follow the DMCA and don't care about the 2257 issue.
? Everyone wants the tubes gone, even Dave (who owns DVD tube).
? People say to boycott the advertisers who advert on the tubes (Dave contacted me at XTube to advertise there in 3 separate emails) but the advertisers PAY money so no one will turn them away.
                                        ? Tubes remain open.

                                        Great post.

The problem is most don't have a product that's worth paying for and the reasons are simple. People who understand computers, traffic and the Internet thinking they can sell porn. The ignorance of what is porn by many is astounding. The other one is selling to affiliates a product they want and not to consumers a product they need.

Exclusive is 9 times out of 10 the exact same product that's on 1000 other sites and 100,000 other scenes. Putting a different blonde on a different sofa with a different dick in her mouth is not exclusive. Buying it from the guy who puts in the cheapest quote and not from the guy who shoots it the best is not what the surfer wants. If you have content like this it's pointless protecting it. The surfer will watch the scenes of the guys who can't be bothered protecting their content and doing exactly the same.

You have to have something worth selling to sell it, you have to have something worth protecting to protect it. And both will cost you money on the content side, who is prepared to take money out of the traffic side to fund better content?

Advertising revenues on Tube sites will not improve unless main stream step in. Dating sites are largely a con, especially the ones that tell me they have girls in the town up the road from my office and then show the same girls and tell me they live in the same village as we have our home. The surfer is not stupid.

Cam sites are also suffering, $$ is in the toilet, girls are not earning and not motivated. Lose their motivation and you lose the reasons to spend on live web cams and decrease the money they can spend on advertising.

As the Tube sites get more and more traffic they will get more and more free loaders. Increasing the BW bill. Advertising needs to increase as well. Tubes need to sell to porn sites.

Tubes will change the way we do business and the way we run the business.

I do not disagree that traffic will keep moving to new pastures, so lets focus on this instead of supporting sites/sponsors that are taking a "free ride" by using stolen content.

Doesn´t take a genius to spot the tube sites that are illegal, and the sponsors who are funding their activity. Law suites to the illegal tube sites, and massive boycott of the sponsors.

Then they go to the cam and dating sites to get laid.

The users don't want to buy porn anymore - they want to pay for the service that leads to an actual lay.

Actually I would rephrase this a little bit:

The users who just jacked off don't want to buy porn anymore - yet some of them want to pay for the service that leads to an actual lay

Some people think they can close down Tubes sites and all the surfers will rush back to TGP sites with 4 15 second clips and then rush off to sign up to sites that are not worth $3 let alone $30.

If stealing content was the key to running a successful Tube site then stopping them stealing it would work, it's not so won't make any difference.

If the surfers are so pissed off with buying what we offer them for $30 they will put up with the shit a Tube site puts out then closing Tube sites is not the solution. It's not Tubes sites fault the surfers prefer them th paysites, it's the paysites fault.

It's amazing that so many see the key to selling as reducing the customers options. As for the theft issue, that's a red herring. Stopping theft will not kill Tubes sites, in fact it will do the opposite.

Start giving the surfer more at a better value and better reasons to sign up and you might have a chance making a change to the industry. Or at least your fortunes.

As for the title, no one gives a fuck that every $30 membership was costing the DVD or magazine industry. You were very happy to take business from them if it came to you.

Anyone who wants legal Tube clips for the Tube site need only hit me up.
The days of making shitty paysites are pretty much over.. Not too many crappy no content programs left these days. Even the non exclusive programs I've seen now have a shit load of content inside their member areas. The surfers aren't pissed off as you put it, they're just being offered hi quality streaming videos for free. Why do they need to spend $24.99 - $39 on a membership when he can just type in tube8.com and get everything he needs there at no cost?

As for the DVD and Magazine industry, they should have been paying more attention to the internet and got on at the ground floor. Now they have to play catch up. Can't blame that one on us.

For anyone that has been to court, you'll know that a Federal lawsuit will take years and cost hundreds of thousands, even millions depending on your legal team. So at the end of the few years, you'll maybe have a judgement for damages against one tube site which will probably be next to impossible to actually collect. While the lawsuit is in progress, thousands of similar sites would continue to appear.

Paul you're right. I tell my friends (out of the biz) all the time that porn is so boring now. They usually talk excitedly about the luck I have for working in the porn biz but I have to remind them that it is the most redundant shit out there. In Canada we have a no-name brand called "President's Choice" - not sure if it's in the US, but porn is like President's Choice everything! The same people, the same scenarios, the same objectives. It's like most of the porn being made is just some dudes who want to screw hot bitches so they start a porn company to do it.

Porn used to be a story line leading to a fuck scene. Now porn is just the fuck scene. People wanted the fuck scene so now that's what they get, and it's getting boring again. This is the same as bell bottoms and other dead fashions coming back to life - it's old is new again, only no one wants to address it like that.

It's sad that an industry that shaped the internet is now an industry getting rolled over BY the internet.

Do you think YOU would say no to the advertiser because he is doing business with the tube when he is offering you money? Uhm, I'm gonna go ahead and say NO you are NOT. I could be wrong, but...

In my experience there are plenty of advertisers who have had terrible results on tube traffic. The reason is tube users ARE freeloaders and they want something very specific.

I know what they respond to but don't think I want to dump that information onto GFY though.

Paul how has redtube done for you? You talk about tubes being the future great, how is it going for you?

Ofcourse that might not be the end of that sponsor, but they might see a substantial part of their current marketshare go to their competitors

I know what they respond to but don't think I want to dump that information onto GFY though.
No, because there are no "payloaders", your freeloaders are people who want to jack off, show me one single male that would never jacked off.

If you want to jack off and can find a good full length full screen video with your favourite porn star or your type of thing or whatever, you don't feel ashamed that you don't pay for it..

Why would those sites even attracted so much traffic if they wouldn't satisfy its surfers because they look for "something specific"? If I wouldn't find there my specific thing I wouldn't go back anymore, the only thing that is specific about it is that you can immediately find something that turns you on and jack off.

It's the tube evangelium that I have to listen to all the time, but in fact it's nothing more than denying the fact that sex attracts billions of people, it's something that has a very steady level of demand and would even sell, if you wouldn't give that away for free.

So at the end of the few years, you'll maybe have a judgement for damages against one tube site which will probably be next to impossible to actually collect. While the lawsuit is in progress, thousands of similar sites would continue to appear.
True, but there might be mutiple angles which could be used along with the law suite:

                                                                                - In the EU the music industry have successful gotten courts to force the ISPs to block access to illegal music sites (not a widespread practice yet, but getting there)

                                                                                - Bombard the local police where the illegal tube sites are located with claims from companies that have been stolen from. The tube sites might be breaking local anti-porn laws - also could turn into a police CP investigation, since the tube sites have no way of knowing the age of those in the stolen videos.

                                                                                - Constantly find ways to hit their supply line (domain registrant, hosting company, processing, employees, surfers, sponsors, traffic sources etc.) stress all of them, find the weak spot, which is part of keeping them alive, and hit it hard!

                                                                                - Ostracize them, make sure they will always live a life as a outcast/pariah.

                                                                                Etc.

So at the end of the few years, you'll maybe have a judgement for damages against one tube site which will probably be next to impossible to actually collect. While the lawsuit is in progress, thousands of similar sites would continue to appear.

So did platinum dave finally advertise on xtube or not?
