42,527 Ontario civil servants make $100,000+

    That's a 24% jump over last year.

While the province's working poor struggle on $8.75 an hour.

Premier Dalton McGuinty says its no big deal.

    McGuinty makes $203,439 a year.

Minimum wage just jumped from $8/hr. to a whopping $8.75/hr. This amounts to $4,000 less than the low-income cutoff as defined by the government.

Every industry has to have it's own bro club.
In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.

maybe that's why politicians loose prospective of the working class when they get into office.

Thats an incorrect statement. It should be "42,527 Ontario civil servants made $100,000+" because it includes employees collecting over time hours. The number of civil servants who make over $100k per year as a salary is much lower.

Never mind the fact that $100k isn't a large number anymore. Ten years ago it was impressive, but in 2008? My damn property tax bill for 2007 was $7800 for fuck sakes.

The front page of the Sun yesterday had a picture of a TTC ticket taker who made $100,016 last year.

He sits in a chair, in a glass box, and makes change for people. That's it.

Lots of TTC drivers make in the $75-85k range, to drive a bus.

Then they hold the city hostage once a year, either threatening or actually shutting down public transportation, leaving thousands of people unable to get to work, because they want more money!!

Fuckin cock suckers. I have no idea why this city puts up with the TTC.

Even if they made 100,000+ a year on over time.. What about taking 10,000 more people and giving them 40,000+ a year so they can get out of poverty?

100K is not what was before, besides that, yo have to deduct taxes from all that money and you will see that you have close to the middle of your brute income. Besides that, ontario is one of the most expensive cities of canada.

They should get rid of minimum wage all together. That way people get paid what they deserve to be paid. Some will make more, some will make less.

the difference is...in canada if you're broke making minimum wage....you still get health insurance...and you always have a govt subsidized place to stay (thats not a ghetto)

even canada's worse ghetto's look like the suburbs in comparison with American section 8 housing

so no matter how "broke" you are....you live fairly well in Canada

The problem in this case is a union who has pushed well past its usefulness. They're always on about how "dangerous" it is to drive a bus, dealing with the "public" I mean c'mon.. What about the other 50 people PAYING TO RIDE THE BUS?? It's not dangerous for them??

To get on the bus here it costs $2.75 now, and will soon be $3.00 I'm sure. We have basically 2 subway lines connected with the bus system. One is a long stretch east-west, and the other north south in a U. Quite small.

In Mexico City for example, they have something like 12-15 lines, the map looks like a shreddy. It costs the equivalent of about $0.20 for a ticket.

                                                  Toronto:

While the province's working poor struggle on $8.75 an hour.

Premier Dalton McGuinty says its no big deal.

                                                      McGuinty makes $203,439 a year.

Minimum wage just jumped from $8/hr. to a whopping $8.75/hr. This amounts to $4,000 less than the low-income cutoff as defined by the government.

Look on the bright side, at least you know why Ontario's new "health care premium" tax is being siphoned into general revenues and not directly into the health care system.

The more startling figures for Ontario was 200,000 manufacturing jobs lost and 100,000 government jobs created. I guess if there is one thing that builds an economy up through tough times its overpaying militant civil servants that don't really do anything.

Doctor or bus driver? Who would have said they would be living in the same neighborhood and driving similar cars???
