Jane's Addicion - Three Days (DVD)

Well one of the bands I always wanted to see live and that I will always miss is the surf killer rock extraordinaires Jane's Addiction, as far as they definitely broke up after their 2002 reunion it might never happen.

So I got kind of surprised when I walked into a local supermarket and found the "Three Days" DVD for sale at about 10 USD.

Over the years (I found Jane's over a local underground art magazine in the category "if you like this you will also like" plus I also read an interview with Perry Farrel and the guy seemed to be a really cool cat to me), that was like way back in 96 or so.. I always asked myself, what is the essence that makes their music special?

What is what makes them to be one of the most original and influental bands of their era?

Why can you just walk the sidewalk with your earphones on and feel like the super hype non conform surfin guy?

Here are the words that came to my mind after seeing this DVD:

exciting, emotional, dedicated, atmospheric, intense, epical, lyrics keep up with music and I would dare to say they are one of the MOST KILLING LIVE ACTS of all time.

If you ever seen any of their concert photos or clips you know Jane's were always a LOT into the presentation on stage, this DVD is from the 1997 reunion era with Flea on bass and it's a mixture of misscelaneous shots, interviews and contains about 40 minutes of original live music, with killing takes of songs such as "Ocean Size" "Mountain song" "Three Days" "Jane Says" or "Summertime rolls".

Of course all backed with exotic and sexy chicks, strippers, dancers, transvestites and a very intense dress code.

This DVD, even kind of chaotically edited, is still a must see for the fans, kind of reminded me on the "Funky Monks" from Red Hot Chilli Peppers in its style..

Here is actually one of the songs featured on the DVD - "Three Days":

i loved them recorded, but I have seen them live 3 times and they were awful..you couldn't make out what perry was screaming half the time, he is a terrible stage performer, he tries so hard to be strange and weird it ruins the music when he screams it live

but their cd's are some of the best ever for sure

I guess this DVD is pretty crisp with sound, well I know most of the lyrics so it's kind of tough to say, but I guess it ain't that bad..

He is a pretty freaky singer and it sure takes time to get used to him, on the other hand he is a very intense personality, and if you check Porno for Pyros for example it still had very much a signature sound..

I guess he was the motor of Jane's Addiction.

            I dig Jane's, too...

But what I wanna know, Carlos - is how you can against the recreational use of marijuana and, at the same time, be such a fan of Jane's Addiction.

That's kinda like running around saying that oil is the cause of all the world's evils while owning a Hummer and taking your personal helicopter the whole block to work every day.

It's the fuel that feeds the fire.

One of the best bands out there.. I still listen to nothings shocking in my regular CD rotation and on my IPOD... I also have seen them live twice, once at the hollywood bowl (great show) and once for a KROQ show (crappy performance)...

Dude, let me tell you a top secret information, but you have to promise me you won't tell it to those trolling Baboons in here..

I don't care about weed nearly nowhere as much as it probably looked like, I don't do weed cause I don't like it and I have only a very bad experience with it, but in fact I don't give a shit about the recreational use.

Unless someone starts the same old shit about their miracle drug and is not a super orthodox stoner I don't give a damn, I fed the fire a little bit, but just for fun, I am getting back to be real again.

Also, at certain point I even believe that dope and music and art in general are many times in synergy, Toulouse Lautrec drank like crazy and was a serious coker, and I wouldn't ever want Santana or James Marshall Hendrix not to smoke the shit at Woodstock.

                I don't do it, that's all.

one of the most importnat acts of their time....

They brought Lolapalooza here (Toronto) and there was no better summer show!

Thanks Carlos, will look for that set...

I saw them with NIN and a bunch of other bands at the first ever lollapalooza tour I think it was back in 91. Both JA and NIN rocked at that show.

well, i have listened to him since I was 15 and I am 33 now, haha, i would think that is long enough to get used to it, but nothiong could have prepared me for the horror that was perry farrell live

and yes, his personality is very intense, but chill at the same time, he is an old family friend and I have had the pleasure of meeting him a few times now, he is just as weird as he seems, but I think a lot of it is an act that he has just grown accustomed to playing because people expect it

robert smith from the cure was the same way when I met him, so weird that it wasn't right, another act that he grew into forever

I saw them at Coachella in 2001. They had several stages set up with people dressed like the band, and for each song the lights would come on over a different stage, so you didn't know which was the real band. They were hiding the fact that Flea was playing with the band (they had released a statement a few days prior saying he wouldn't be there) until he did a 10 minute bass solo in Been Caught Stealing. Or at least that's how I remember it, I took a lot of acid earlier in the day and was a little out of touch with reality.
