Nothing personal, but that's a pretty weak line to be drawn compared to the "other shit" (your words) that's posted here. Frankly, it sounds rather playground-ish in the big picture with Damian quoting rules like a scorned youngster, and lines being drawn in the sand, all over the mentioning of another board's name (not url) that came back after being offline for some time.

I hope I never came off like that, except when Ice and I got into it for fun and kept deleting and editing each others posts.
Being a mod was fun and I hated having to deal with people just being assholes. Juicy went off the reservation once and I had to ban him, after Lensman had a talk with him, he was released from the ban. I hated to do it, but he posted over a 100 new threads in one day.

It's just an opinion, for all I know, this is some asshat doing a favor for Damage to relaunch his forum, that's why there are rules in the forum.
Believe it or not, when I was a mod, most things like this were brought to the attention of all the mods and a decision was made after talking to everyone. Sometimes we would even talk to Eric or Lensman to get a clear decision . I got over written from time to time, but imho, this is spamming another forum.
Am I to believe that every time a new adult forum starts up, it can be mentioned here, as long as a link is not provided? Frankly, in my opinion, it is an insecurity about your own product/service if you're that afraid to lose customers to a competitor simply by mentioning them by name.
That said, I do find that several other forums suffer the same insecurity -- GFY is not unique in this insecurity. One would think GFY has a strong enough userbase to overcome such an insecurity -- I certainly think GFY does.NSFWComment

I have niche adult forums, I built them for webmaster help, info, etc. And I personally link the hell out of GFY threads when necessary. When relevant.
GFY doesn't have every inch of information all the time.... and sometimes it's relevant and necessary to post links to other forums for informative purposes (who posted what info, which time /day, see other replies from other users etc)
Sometimes people post in my forums "so and so posted on the zoo about this or that" and i ask them "please post the link to that thread"

Rivals GFY in what regard. For business with less clutter? Most of them. For off-topic clutter and nonsense with some business in between? GFY wins hands down.
I am a member of several forums that allow, or encourage, open dialogue -- after all, we're adults, not in junior high (though sometimes the goings on around here make one wonder, but I digress). Syphoning forum members used to be a common rule when boards were first popping up all over the place. Now there's a handful of them left -- some more business focused (Xbix, for example), Some more community minded (MP's, for example), some more advertising/page views focused (GFY) with a touch of business, and still others.
On all of those, if you went there and typed , "Come join our new board", then of course that would be dealt with.
But this thread is not about deliberately trying to syphon members to a new board. It was just a topic that said, "hey, DamageX is back, never expected that to happen". There was no blatant "come join my new board!!". Heck, there was not even a URL.
GFY's userbase, and management, should certainly be secure in their product in this day and age to not get bent out of shape over the mention of a much smaller board that disappeared for a long time and was put back online.Last edited by robwod; 01-10-2014, 10:38 AM.NSFWComment
