God help me I actually read this entire thread. BannerAnt, it does not matter how good of a designer you are, it does not matter if you were 2 minutes late or 2 years late. You missed REPEATED deadlines. It goes like this:
1. He placed an order for 20 banners.
2. You showed him 10 completed banners and wanted 1/2 the money. He was nice enough to give you the money. I see repeated requests for a zip, all of which were ignored and then on the final day, you come up with some lame excuse that the zip link was on the page. You never mentioned that every time he asked for his banners, you just started saying that after you were told he did not want anything further. I call bullshit.
So what we have here is a guy with some talent as a designer who will never make it as one because he will not handle his business as a business.
What you are doing in this thread is turning off a hell of a lot of potential customers. What you need to do is to provide your customer with exactly what he paid for, and that would be 10 banners. If he does not buy the other banners, then you are SOL because he told you to stop working on them but you refused so it is YOUR fault for wasting additional time on them.
I also want to point out, not sure if anyone else actually looked at the banners...but I would not be too happy about the same content being used more than once. You basically cut out a few girls in the first lot of banners, and then reused some of them on the second batch...probably because you were trying to save time..but those are shortcuts that I would not like a designer I am paying to makeComment

Without reading your mindless dribble...
Banner Ant seems to not know how to schedule things correctly. He is in business only when he needs money. So if you need something done ASAP you need to align your ASAP with his ASAP need for bill money.
A good time to hire him is anytime from 28th - 31st. But don't let your work spill over into the new month because he won't be getting to it until the 14th when the car payment is due.
Move along.Comment

I like the way you tell us How this designer fucked you and at the end tell us how this clown told you he is building a website full of stolen content...
Karma is a bitch across the board

You know I was wondering about that...someone else told me the exact same thing. Didn't willsaucebox run the exact same promo prices for banners, have the exact same issues, and eventually end up ripping several people off?Comment

bannerant, you seem to be under the impression that there is such a thing as a "final deadline". a deadline IS final. you told him day after day you'd have his work done. when someone tells me that they'll be done the same day, i expect that it will be. period. otherwise they'd have the option to tell me a different day - that way, i can plan accordingly.
as far as telling a client all your roommate problems goes, i've seen people who post on this board work when they were ill, being evicted, with neighbor problems, computer problems, right after hurricanes, when their significant other was in the hospital or even dead. your personal problems are just that - YOUR personal problems. you can deal with them in many ways - put a lock on your bedroom door, move, get a separate office, throw your roommate out.
the rest of us have schedules to keep, and saying "oh, sorry - the designer has roommate problems" isn't something most of us would like to tell those who are waiting on us. the easy way to avoid it is to work with designers who can keep their personal lives separate from their businesses.Comment

You dicked him around for weeks, so stop with the "5 mins" talk.
If you are smart, or serious about your business, this is what you'll do:
*Send him the link to the stuff he paid for.
*Give him the rest of the banners for no charge, because you didn't make your deadlines and caused him so much hassle.
*Apologize for the whole mess and hope he accepts it.
*Never, ever tell a client about all your personal bullshit and problems. It's no excuse and no one gives a shit, anyway.
My guess is you're probably very young and you'll take the "fuck that shit" approach. If so, log out, create a new board name, get a new domain, and start over. Because your design career here is probably done, otherwise.War National Damn Champions EagleComment

I couldn't care less what you think about me, but he puts out a much better product that most of the hacks here calling themselves "designers". That much is easy to see.Comment

I don't care if he shits 24 karat banners out of his ass. If it takes him 2 weeks to deliver something he promised to have done in less than 24 hours, then he's a sorry excuse for a designer. And when he repeatedly writes, "I'll be done by tonight" and doesn't deliver, it also makes him a liar. Which is right up your alley, of course.War National Damn Champions EagleComment

Jesus.
This is like a lesson in how to not do marketing.
It doesn't matter the ins and outs. Bannerant looks like an untrustworthy child.
Arguing like this over, what, 100 bucks?
I am starting 3 new aff progs in the next 2 months. Will need hundreds of banners. Won't be calling Bannerant.Comment

Be real careful when dealing with candyflip. He is a thief and will stab you in the back any chance he gets. Make sure you have clear and written agreement with him for deadlines and what he will provide if you decide to do business with him.

Hey Quantum,
That really sucks about the banners. Theres no excuse for stuff like this and it's folks like him that give the rest of us designers a bad name.
I'll do the banners you're missing for free and I can have them done for saturday. just check out my site for some of my recent banner designs i've done. If you're interested feel free to hit me up via icq or email.Comment

Thank you again mate.Comment

I can sympathise with BannerAnt not wanting to deliver the goods without payment, but it's not like quantum-x is an unknown n00b with 3 posts and of no fixed abode. (Wait... did I get that last bit right? ;) )
BA, being super stubborn is going to hurt your business in the long run. Anyone reasonable would agree that it would not take an appreciable amount of time or effort to re-send a link to the stuff that has already been paid for. If he asked for it 2 years down the track, then that may be a different matter, but this was only 2 weeks later.
I'm not sure whether the link posted here was for the first set or the whole lot, but if it's the former then hows about posting the rest and moving on. You're just hurting your biz by keeping this thread alive.Comment

I purchase 4 banners from BannerAnt months ago, he told me 1-2 days and each day he keep saying "tonight or tomorrow" and this went on for 7 days.
I paid up front and I did get the banners but it was only after I threaton to get my paypal money back. It took 30 minutes after that.---Comment

I read through this entire thread and you have to be the dumbest business person ever.yeah, you were being a prick when I said I need a few more mins to animate a couple more and you cancelled the deal. That's prickish if you ask me.
you disagree with that?
a head's up huh? Anyone that reads what I've been dealing with...should be able to understand why things were a bit late.
Here's a tip. The client is always right (psst... Even if you think they're wrong) The drama this thread created will likely ensure that you lost a ton of business.
If you had instead come into the thread and been a man (not giving excuses) and said something to the effect... "You know what? you're right quantum (even if you didn't think he was) and to make up for the delays I'm going to give you the complete order (including the additional animated banners you rushed to finish to try to save the order) and won't charge you because of the delays"
This would not only have saved you the grief of looking like a tool but likely would have garnered you much more business (remember kids business = money) in the long run.

I seo'd my hair yesterday and today it's pr7!
