Why hurricanes are always female? I mean people name them with female names like Katrina or Sandy. Why not hurricane Bill, Mike or something?
Do you know a male hurricane?

I think the name list alternates female>male>female>male>female>male... but they are named when they are far out to sea and a lot never reach the land to do any damage. You only remember the ones that destroyed somewhere.↑ see post ↑

Before Andrew there was a Hurricane David back in 1979. I remember riding that one out as a kid in FL. It was a cat 5, that ran the entire coast line of the US from the keys all the way to Maine.

Very interesting really...
http://geology.com/hurricanes/hurricane-names.shtmlIn 1978, meteorologists watching storms in the Eastern North Pacific began using men's names for half of the storms. Meteorologists for the Atlantic ocean began using men's names in 1979. For each year, a list of 21 names, each starting with a different letter of the alphabet was developed and arranged in alphabetical order (names beginning with the letters Q, U, X, Y and Z were not used). The first tropical storm of the year was given the name beginning with the letter "A", the second with the letter "B" and so on through the alphabet. During even-numbered years, men's names were given to the odd-numbered storms and during odd-numbered years, women's names were given to odd-numbered storms (see the table above for recent name lists).Herschel Savage

I remember running from hurricane floyd...“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”Comment
