I've had a conference call with the CEO of BitPay,(another non-US) processor, and one exchange founder. Accepting btc is amazingly simple, you/your site doesn't even need a "processor"(though they make it more convenient). The problem is that it is ridiculously hard to get btc in the first place. two choices right now (for US citizens)
- meet a stranger at a starbucks and hand them cash or deposit money directly into their bank acct. then they send you coin (localbitcoin)
- go through the 1-2 week process of setting up and exchange account, wire them your USD, and hope that this wasn't over a span like the recent couple weeks where the price blows up

both of these options take too long and are by normal person standards risky. The US's money xfer regulations have prevented a simple solution to this. It's the biggest hurdle
