You are only getting a taste here of the buildup of any given scene.

Hot is relative, of course. As you know every customer is different and many people hate this type if porn. They want it raw/rough/dirty/closeup etc. They don't care about the camera work, the lighting, or how expensive that armoire in the background is. And that's fine. There are plenty of people shooting that type of content who will continue to shoot and that market is, from my perspective, insanely saturated.

There is another type of customer in a much smaller group, I admit, that is looking for a more refined experience. He may be a Wall Street broker, or an art gallery owner, but he is sick of all the gonzo shit shot in Reseda apartments and wants to get off on the type of girls and scenes that he imagines are hot in his world. He is looking at the makeup, the lighting, the room. He gets off on the beauty of the girl and the beauty of the scene. That's the target market here. Its a niche like anything else. You have to specialize these days to stand out.

A lot of people (the majority) love to slam Bud or Coors Light and get hammered. I drink a 18yr single malt Scotch that I sip slowly and savor. That is just the way I am and I know there are a lot more like me

I totally agree with you Robbie. For the babes.com scenes we were mandated to keep it softer (although that's changing) as the original vision was more GF friendly. We are shooting a feature now for Adam&Eve which is much harder, and I am looking forward to clients that allow is to take it to a more dirty level while still maintaining the beautiful lighting and camera moves. I think that will be a winning combo

As far as gear goes, We shoot stills on Nikon and the video on Canon 5Ds. We are starting to shoot 4k on the Red One in rare instances. I use all Nikon glass when I can, even on the Canon. We also use some Zeiss Lenses. We light with Kino's and HMI's I use parachutes to soften the light, and then from there it is just positioning the models You can see some good BTS shots at my blog www.nakedinla.com I am also building a new "how to" site for pornographers

Problem is, you're almost going to have to find amateur male talent who can really fuck. Almost impossible. I just can't see any of the male talent in L.A. being able to pull that off. They are just a little too jaded.

It's almost like finding a unicorn trying to get that kind of real lustful sex on film.

I shoot with my 5d MkIII, and I've been wanting to get a different lens. Which lens is your main workhorse right now? I've been eyeballing some of the Canon prime and cinelens options. The damn things are up around $4,000 - $5000.

Right now I'm using the Canon 24-70 2.8 lens. It's nice and has worked great.
But I think I'd like to move to the 11 blade realm and I don't EVER need the zoom feature of the lens I have now.

I'm thinking something around a 50mm maybe?

What do you think? Shooting in close quarters...

With regards to the lenses I think the answer is really more about filters then lenses. You want to capture the best possible looking image so glass is really important for not only the areas in focus, but even more so the areas out of focus. Getting a good bokeh is really critical. That being said, great makeup is essential and there is new technology with filters coming out. These soften only skin tones but nothing else. We will probably experiment more with these as we get further into 4k.

Get the Canon 50 f1.2 It is an amazing lens and exactly what you are looking for. For the type of shooting you do it is ideal and you can achieve very narrow DOF with it. Google some sample images and you will see I would not spring for the cinema version as you will see so little benefit from it vs the double cost. It is not worth it.

The 70-200 is an epic lens is probably the lens I use the most. For Robbie and most adult though it is too long for shooting video inside unless you have a rig and deep sets.
