You seemed to state that today's youth can't organize large war protests, as they did back when you were young. I simply suggested that, if a draft were currently in place, that today's youth would very much organize in protest of this war.

Had a draft been implemented at the onset of this war in Iraq, then maybe the war would be over by now, as it would emotionally effect EVERYONE in the US... not just volunteers and their loved ones, but EVERYONE and EVERY family. The war's justification would have had to be truly comprehensible and worthwhile. The decision wouldn't have been able to be so quickly decided.

W, Dick, and Rummy promised a war that would cost up to 2 billion dollars (which would be paid for by Iraq's oil revenues) and that the war would last NO LONGER than 6 months.

Are you ready to vote McCain for more of the same? If so, have at it!

Im so glad you brought this up, let me educate you some more.

It was clearly stated in Bush's speech at the time that this was the end to major combat operations in Iraq, and it did coincide with an end to the conventional phase of the war. The famous Mission Accomplished banner didnt even come into play and became controversial until after guerilla warfare in Iraq increased.

Upon returing home after his visit to the USS Abraham Lincoln Navy Commander Conrad Chun specifically said in a Time (magazine) interview just days later the banner referred specifically to the aircraft carrier's 10-month deployment (which was the longest deployment of a carrier since the Vietnam War) and not the war itself, saying "It truly did signify a mission accomplished for the crew."
