okay, I said 2/3 minutes per clip, not 20 seconds, and I still meant to show the full movie but break it down into managable sizes so the people with dial up (a majority of the people out there) don't end up locking up your servers to the point that no one can d/l anything.
I have been there, I have seen what happens. Of course, your b/w bill will drop significantly when no one can access the server. That is the one upside.
No way would I ever go over 5 min a clip, and for sure, give then at least 2 minutes a clip. The best way, is to cut the movie up by scene. Some will be longer than others and if a 10 minute scene, cut it into two 5 minute clips.
Would stay with .wmv and .mpg at least since most people can view then without having to fetch codecs, which will be required with .avi
Real Player, I hate.
Another option not enough people appreciate is QT. Their quality has gotten good enough that I will even mention their name in a thread, and would never do that a few years ago.
