"Saudi Arabia has invested in Pakistani nuclear weapons projects, and believes it could obtain atomic bombs at will, a variety of sources have told BBC Newsnight.

While the kingdom's quest has often been set in the context of countering Iran's atomic programme, it is now possible that the Saudis might be able to deploy such devices more quickly than the Islamic republic.

Earlier this year, a senior Nato decision maker told me that he had seen intelligence reporting that nuclear weapons made in Pakistan on behalf of Saudi Arabia are now sitting ready for delivery.

Last month Amos Yadlin, a former head of Israeli military intelligence, told a conference in Sweden that if Iran got the bomb, "the Saudis will not wait one month. They already paid for the bomb, they will go to Pakistan and bring what they need to bring."

well, to borrow the argument of the gfy iranian nuke sympathizers, if everyone else in the regions has nukes, why should not saudi arabia?

good article too, apparently sa has had the nuke(s) bought since 2009 and have them ready for delivery within 1 month after iran acquires nuke capability.

TBH...first i dont think the oreo cookie has the balls to respond with anything beyond drones.

second...the likelihood of a state using a nuke on purpose is virtually nil, while a suprise attack from an unknown proxy is a virtual certainty.

it will take some weeks or months for the CIA to be certain who pulled off the attack. what if the taliban stole a nuke from saudi arabia? we're not going to nuke saudi arabia.

& while we're waiting for the CIA to figure out the source, world markets will melt down due to the fear of more unexpected bombings. USA might be bankrupt before we could launch a plane.

just IMO but any nuke going off anywhere at anytime will bring the whole world order down to its knees. rogue nukes is the end of 1st world civilization. Only drug dealers & survivalists will have the tools to prosper in the chaos. Everyone depending on a day job & the banking system would be screwed.

the article joshgirls points out is testimony of warren buffet, his primary income (in the billions) is insurance, the article is him saying insurance carriers are re-writing policies to exclude coverage of a nuke disaster.

the reason insurance carriers rewrite policies is because the math tells them to. that business is all math, buffet knows that. the math shows it is a statistical certainty there will be a nuke event here.

now extrapolate from that math the worldwide probability of a nuke going off in some way, some where. remember how the iceland volcanic eruption shut down europe? the nuke fallout from a nuke event won't be isolated.

dreaming a little more. as the pentagon has planned for everything, i expect the military has the resources to deploy special forces within days to extinguish any terrorist organization that is responsible for a nuke attack, no matter where it happens.

the real issue is how many nukes go off, & where. the US has redundancies where wall street can be replaced by chicago. DC would be replaced by NORAD.

beyond the catastrophic loss of people & property, its true that the financial calamity would be global. it would be akin to a multi week or monthlong power outage & people would not have access to cash for food & life. think of it like new orleans after katrina. there is simply not enough cops on earth to preserve the way things are.

depending on who survives, the chinese or the russians may replace the USA as the global superpower, at least for a generation.

i simply hope it never happens.

I'm not the least bit anti-semitic but Israel will likely be the next victim of mass murder by nuke. Anyone who thinks that just because they have the ability to strike back ensures their survival is delusional - they won't continue to exist as a state if nukes fall into the hands of any one of their various enemies.

Then we will have a large refugee population coming in.

I think if a terrorist group grabbed nukes from another country and killed three million Americans in Denver, I think there would be serious repercussions. What would Saudi Arabia or Pakistan do - say "Gee, we are really sorry this happened" and we'll just call it good? Look what happened with Afghanistan after 9/11 - Three thousand Americans dead, billions of dollars of damage, and we invaded another country and remove their government.
