Wow that's a really terrible story. I lived in New Mexico for several years and never had any issues with the police or even people pretty much. This kind of crazy shit happens everyday in the US these days. Maybe people aren't getting anally tortured but people are being illegally searched and treated like shit at the whim of your police and government.
You're currently in a polite police state which is only going to become less polite and more apparent as time goes on.
