Why would I close it? I get cheques in USD, wires, paypal transfers. My bank charges me no fees for deposits made to my US account. But if I try depositing US cheques into my Canadian savings account there is a fee.
Only a moron would take a hit like that.
I deposit US funds to my US account, then transfer money over to my Canadian account as needed. Often times I don't need to so I leave it sitting there.
When the day comes that the USD has some of it's value back, THAT'S the time to transfer it over to other currencies.
Ok So tell me how someone that gets paid in US dollars will benefit from putting his accounts in Euros.
Well for starters this thread was meant for people who also get paid in other currencies than those of you who only collect money in USD. Though even then I would think if you (only with USD) put it in the right accounts in the right currency you could at the very least stabilize the savings you currently are sitting on.
With that said, say you trade to Euros for example and your account earns interest. If it gets stronger, you make an accelerated increase since the dollar is weakening.

Then you can clearly be listed as someone who will keep your accounts as is. Whatever works for you. That doesn't work for me. I haven't closed mine either, but they (USD accounts) are sitting almost empty and my big accounts have all moved to other currencies, where I am earning good interest on a growing currency. Nothing moronic about that.
I wish to bill in Euro only very soon. I live in Europe and for me, it's like beeing an American on a permanent vaction and loosing 50%+ of the money.
I don't purchase gold or know enough about it to do so, though even though it's high, would it not be more solid than a sinking currency?
Any gold experts in here?
Gold has topped a $1000/ounce. If you buy it and hold it and it falls to $800 you lose money. If gold prices start to fall, much like a stock, who is going to buy your gold bars? You could end up losing money but then there are those who say gold will hit $1300/ounce this year.
buying gold when it's at all time high, is risky....
not 100% true..... most people that invest in gold dont do it for quick returns, but instead more as wealth building. just buy it and forget about it... 25 years from now who the fuck knows where any currency will be. the dollar could just be a memory or something you see in a museum, but gold is the only form of true value
The last time gold had a major upswing was from 1976 - 1980 when it went from under $200/ounce to over $600/ounce. In 1981 it dropped to under $450/ounce and in 1982 was under $400/ounce. If you were going to invest in gold you should have started buying in 1999 (price was sub $300/ounce) up until around January 2007 when gold was selling at just over $600/ounce. The 66%+ run up of gold's price since january 07 isn't going to last. Is it going to come down soon or in 2 years? No one knows for sure.
