I used to host a BBS back in the 80's and 90's... It was only active from 10pm to 6am. I was about 15 years old or so when I started it and I used to promote it as the end all place to get your porn. In effect I had guys dropping off porn to me! I had this back story on it where I was a retired guy in his late 50's that had every single Playboy in my collection... blah blah...
Back around 2002 I hosted my own site on my DSL line. It was a TGP. Got it to about 15,000 users a day and my ISP sent someone to my house. He basically told me they 1) don't allow hosting sites at your house and 2) if they did they certainly would allow porn. I needed to take it down right then and there and never put it back up or they'd cancel my account.
I found a $24.95 hosting account and my site went from 15,000 to about 70,000 people a day almost immediately.. apparently my computer and connection sucked...
