can someone help me with setting up my hosting with gotwebhost.com

my hosting account just got setup but im kinda lost on what i should do since a friend set up the hosting i had before i switched...i changed my dns server to the new one i got from gotwebhost but then i get an error when i try to visit my site that says "To change this page, upload your website into the public_html directory" I have no clue what that is...help please

you need to upload your index page or index.php into the public_html folder then your site will replace the page you are seeing now

you need to some files to the public_html folder on your server

Login to your account with your FTP client. You will see Domains. Click that. You will then see several new directories, including one that says public_html

you will upload your new page there. If it includes an index.php be sure to delete index.html as it will take precedence.

You can also login to your Direct Admin control panel, go to USER LEVEL, then to file manager and follow the same instructions.

I prefer the FTP method myself.

i logged into ftp and downloaded all my info to a fodler on my desktop...now i need to upload my index.php to the public_html folder but where is a public_html folder?

Baddog...my problem is that i just dont understand terminology. Like my friends are saying shit like "upload your blah blah blah"" and im like wtf is all that? I probably know how to do it but just dont recognize the words they are saying to me. I could read your link you just gave me but its all french to me. All i need to do is be taught how to do it step-by-step one time and i will be fine. Ive just had it done for me in the past so now that its my turn to do it solo im lost.

1 log into your cpanel example would be http://www.yoursite.com/cpanel
2 enter your user and pasword
3 it will load up a Cpanel like the one below ..double click on the "File Manager" the one I have circled
4 It will open up all your folders, and in there is your Public-html folder
5 Double click on the folder , not the text
6 The folder will open and give you the option of uploading your index file
7 the quickest and easiest way to upload your files is using a ftp manager like filezilla which you can download for free
Then configure the ftp manager to your ftp address. It will tell you how to do this with the filezilla program.
