This is all just carefully crafted crap designed for and marketed to be "popular" music and appeal to the majority to maximize profits.
By definition something that appeals to the majority is always inferior than something truly unique or cutting edge. The majority of the bell shaped curve is average. Average is typical and just another cookie cutter clone / sheep in the herd.
Having mass appeal only means that the average moron likes you. It has nothing to do with talent what-so-ever.
Just a product much like a McDonald's Big-Mac.
