As an American I'm sad, shocked and pissed!

Forget what party he is, forget the prostitution issue, Gov. Eliot Spitzer got involved in this career ending mess because he was spending cash. I repeat, because he was spending cash ... legal tender.

I'm going to assume all his deposits were made by check, that's typical of most Americans. So here we have a rich man asking for some of his own money in good old fashion cash. For this some busy-body notified federal authorities, and the authorities actually started an investigation. Pitiful.

Federal authorities then obtained wiretapping approval from a federal judge. (Judge we have a man using cash) This user of cash is then put under surveillance by federal agents to see how the cash will be spent. What if he was buying antiques? What if he was going to the race track? Pitiful.

Pussy, the man want's some pussy. Don't we all.

Since most people in the Washington DC area actually live in Virginia or Maryland a state line needs to be crossed before the pussy can be delivered to the man trying to spend his own cash. That makes it a federal crime.

What in the fuck is going on in this country? Where is the press outrage that a man is even investigated for spending his own cash? Pitiful, fucking pitiful.

Granted this guy was a Governor, but doesn't that make it even worse?

I am sad and pissed as an American that this has been the leading story in the middle of war, dollar hitting record low, housing market crashing, oil at record high with no end in sight, a 55 trillion dollar debt to be paid with no answer, leading military men resigning because they do not want to go to war with Iran.

Wouldn't a Governor be taking money not giving it out? Isn't that the normal bribery or influence peddling procedure?

I get what you're saying, and agree with it... but none of that is news. As in, everyone already knows about the war, the falling dollar, the lousy housing market, oil prices skyrocketing, and the national debt. Most are probably sick to death of hearing about it all.

You are right to a point. But try this out. Go and ask random people at an avg joe place ie starbucks, mcdonalds, apple bees, you know something everyday working people go to, "What does the federal reserve do" and you quickly realize that Americans know nothing of the problems that are facing them.

I am actually right completely. See, the thing about those people you are referring to, the problem as it were, is that no amount of news articles on what really matters is going to educate them... because most probably don't bother reading the paper (at least not that part of the paper) or pay attention to televised newscasts. Survivor is on, who has time for news?

This post isn't about the Gov. ... It's about how our society has changed to the point where the federal government will start following American citizens to see how they spend their own cash. I hope you care about that.

Just curious how Clinton was bad for the US people? I just remember under his power that people were making a fuckload of money and the budget was balanced.

You make a great point. I actually am someone who likes to pay for cash for just about everything (groceries, TVs, etc). I was taught at a young age that paying for things in cash makes you realize how much you are really spending (as opposed to handing a piece of plastic over).

So I keep a lot of cash on me and in a safe at home. Sometimes it gets too much and I choose to deposit it. It makes me real nervous to make a cash deposit of $2000. I get a weird look from the teller sometimes and I wonder if I'm being reported. I am not doing anything illegal, I pay my taxes, but I shouldn't feel uncomfortable for being someone who uses cash. I have a feeling that if others used cash more instead of plastic, we wouldn't be in such a shitty credit crunch.

I owned a retail business for years. I loved customers that paid in cash ... Checks might bounce, which creates overhead costs to have a bookkeeper notify the customer, arrange payment, collect the bank fees etc ... Credit cards took a certain amount of time to get posted to our bank account and all carried a surcharge from the card company ... But cash was cash, immediate full value for the product we sold.

                                        .

Sad but true. But if the "news" really got into the issues at some point people would catch on.

But like former president of CBS news Richard Salent once said "Our job is to give people not what they want, but what WE decided they ought to have."

or Former president of NBC news said "News is what someone wants to suppress. Everything else is advertising." Question is what are they selling?

I am actually right completely. See, the thing about those people you are referring to, the problem as it were, is that no amount of news articles on what really matters is going to educate them... because most probably don't bother reading the paper (at least not that part of the paper) or pay attention to televised newscasts. Survivor is on, who has time for news?

                                            What is sadder is:

                                            1) The media is covering this thing to death. I mean, live shots of his SUV heading to his resignation speech - minute-by-minute, no less?

                                            2) Every tiny nugget of info about "her" will be all over the media. They will interview every person she's ever known, from her 1st grade teacher to some kid she went on a date with when she was 18.

                                            3) That there are probably 50 GFY threads on this topic, so far.

                                            4) That he, like all the other politicians in similar scandals, drags his wife in front of the press conference ... and she goes along with it.

                                            5) That idiots like Jet will start threads talking about how his daughters are wearing "fuck me" boots in a photo.

                                            6) That I've wasted 5 minutes of my life that I'll never get back writing this post..

                                            Sad indeed.

I think it's ridiculous, what public figures do in their private lives is none of anyones business.

Granted this guy was a Governor, but doesn't that make it even worse?

                                                  .
From what I gather, he had a lot of enemies and they were out to expose him. I'm sure plenty of politicians pay for sex without getting caught. Apparently he used to come down hard on organizations and people that spent their own money on things like hookers or offered the services (I haven't confirmed this).

Johns are busted all the time but they don't get the attention he's getting because they're private citizens rather than public figures.

Gov was busted with SAR reports that banks are required by law to fill.
