Walt tugs at our heartstrings because we're all hoping he's Walt, not Heisenberg. But the results of Walt's decisions are no different from Todd's.

I see what you are saying with him being easy to condemn... I find it hard to explain my dislike for him.
It is mostly his ruthless nature, the ability to kill innocents without batting an eyelid, he is by far the most callous of all the characters.
Walt is calculated in his actions, where as Todd actually enjoys killing. He smirks every time he kills.
