Believe it or not there really are still people who believe the earth is flat. There is even a Flat Earth Society, no joke. If there is any evidence that stupidity is on the rise this is just a small portion of it.
Did you know that even to this day that one adult american in five believes that the sun REVOLVES around the earth?
I will take it even a step further...
When asked what makes the day bright, many will say the sun. When asked what the sun is the answer's may vary but only a few will give the correct answer. The sun is a star.
Ever heard people say, look a shooting star. People really believe they are seeing a falling star when in fact it is merely space junk or meteortites burning up in our atmosphere. Stars do not fall.
If anyone has seen the movie "Idiocracy", while not a great movie in itself, it makes a very powerful point on the direction our society is headed.

I dont know who that old man is but I hope he isn't an important figure because his ideas about the universe around him are insane. Makes you wonder what other insane rheotric spread through the middle east that keeps most of that culture in it's original archaic lifestyle.
