You need to create a mysql database. Your host can do that for you if you do not know how.

Yeah, trying to install wordpress on your own is dumb, you should check with your host to see if it comes with "Fantastico" that way the Content Mangement Systems you're looking for is already available on the server for an easy and quick install. So stop wasting your time and sign us with this company: 247 Host

Nobody i host with would have the balls to say someone is dumb for trying to install wordpress. It is idiot proof.

Its one click install. All you need is a database. If someone can't do that, it takes one email.

That's horseshit, you ever try installing these fucking programs? You have to keep changing all the CHMODS in different ASCii mode, and then if you fuck it up , you got to go back and delete the files off the server and then reload it, and then you got to keep changing the CHMODs until they agree with each other with 866 and 666 and 686 and all that other crap. Gives you a headache and makes you wanna throw your computer against the wall cause you spent all this time on getting something to work that doesn't. And god forbid if the files are in the right "directory" or cgi-bin and then you go to run the install and the server doesn't want to work with the software even though its Linux which is suppose to be compatible with everything on the planet.

did you get it set up?

its easy to setup, just sounds hard at first. my host makes it easy to create a mysql database, just gotta find the option in your control panel. then you just copy the database info it gives you and paste it into the wp-config file and that part is done.

You're welcome mate. Once you get one done you should be good to go for future installs.

it should give you a database name, a username and password for the database, and a port. is there an area in your mysql panel that lets you view the info for the database that you've created?

Yeah your right dave. I am on dedicated and ismoke is probably using a virtual acct so he would need to get the info from his host.

Its confusing at first, but keep plugging and then it becomes second nature. ( i hope)

                                            Create mysql database.

Edit config-sample.php to your database info. login and database name is same in config.

                                            Then rename config-sample.php to config.php

and go run Your blog, then the blog setup will start.

Wordpress itself is pretty easy, but sometimes the database naming can be a little confusing on virtual hosting.

For example, often when you choose
                                                database name: dbname
                                                username: user4
                                                password: secretpass

what you have to enter in your script setup turns out to include your login/account name ; say you log into your control panel as Muffin, then your database info becomes:
                                                muffin_dbname
                                                muffin_user4
                                                secretpass
rather than what you tried to set it up as,
                                                dbname
                                                user4
                                                secretpass
Sleep well, and dream of large women.
