Why do people get addicted to them? Simple. They effect everyone differently and just like any drug, some people experience the negative side effects and others don't. If you pop some hydro's and have an itchy and nauseating experience that ends with vomiting, you will never want to see them again, and honestly you are probably better off having a bad experience with opiates than a good one. When I took Vicodin for the first time after surgery in high school, it gave me a stronger calm and relaxed feeling that was better than weed, hands down. And that's why to this day, even though I had never been drawn towards any other drug (even while a lot of my friends started to abuse them), it took a lot of will-power for me to turn down opiates when they were practically handed to me since I KNEW the experience I had with them was all good... too good, really.

In short, the reason people get addicted to prescription pain killers is because they don't experience the same unpleasant side effects as you. And then they lack will-power and abuse it as soon as the opportunity presents itself. Then they're screwed... possibly for life... and check themselves into the methadone clinics.
