Whatever it is I'm glad he's ok. Turtles kick ass. I've been considering getting a red foot tortoise for several years now but need to think about it for a while considering he'll most likely outlive me.I like pie.Comment

We put sand in her tank...
They have them on sand in the pet store...
They have them on sand at the zoo...
They live in a desert type environment(AKA SAND)...
So, we were none the wiser.
Even though I would always put her food on a dry plate... she would usually kick it around enough to get a few grains on it. Shes about 1.2 years old and apparently over time the sand builds up.
Fortunately we got to her in time to make a difference with a lot of laxative administered through the white tube you see on her back. Hopefully she can get rid of that soon.
She could easily have died cuz of her extremely small size. Surgery would have killed her for sure..Comment

Cool critter, makes me miss my old reptile care taking days. I used to have to give vitamin b shots to a couple of desert tortoises once a week. They were both infected with the bug that basically gives them the equivalent to a cold for the rest of their life.SMUTTY CASH

I give my bother-n-law shit about keeping his tiny little snake in a huge ass cage with a bout a foot of sand on the bottom..he never cleans it and the snake is ingesting the sand every time it eats.
I love newspaper..its easy to clean and doenst mess with their health.Comment

Yep, I agree I use paper towels for my Rosy Boa. I've dealt with impactions, and mites before at old animal care jobs. Paper towels/newspapers take care of the problems.SMUTTY CASH

I have two red-ear sliders my ex got me in china town when they were the size of a quarter.. Now 6 years later the smaller one is the size of a small dinner plate. Suckers get HUGE when given the right environment.Comment

I have one that is far to big for a tank, We bring it in during the winter days but for the most part it runs loose in my back yard.... it is bigger then a direct tv satellite dish and is heavy as fuck... weird thing is it likes to eat dry dog food, it will tip over the bowel that holds the food and starts to munch on it... Not saying that’s the only thing it eats but just a little odd.Comment
