in my short trip to CZ a few months back i noticed the local chicks in the clubs were indeed pretty cold how they acted, plus i also agree about not really feeling 'welcome' as a foreigner, in plzen/pilsen or how you call it. When we went on to smaller towns, the people seemed to become more and more friendly there - small town hotels with extremely well service and friendly staff. Actually, I wouldn't really want to use the word "nazi" beeing a citizen of the state that volunteered to be a part of Third Reich between 1939 - 1945.
If anyone wanted a lesson in history from the ass of the world, here it is:
Slovakia volunteered to be a part of the German empire during the world war II, there was no invasion, it was a deal and German troops were welcomed, Czechs turned from brothers to enemies overnight.
After 1945, it was again annected to the CzechoSlovakia, well to make it straight, there was also a strong guerilla movement in the country, so not all the country lost any sense of character.

This thread got ugly. I love this country, I dont want to leave. Schengen enforcement this year is fucking a lot of us. Most of the Americans working here are illegal. Im illegal. I dont know any American with anything more than a tourist stamp. And with the Czech love of bureaucracy and long queues for inane horse shit most of their english teachers will be gone shortly. People are in a full blown panic over here.

There was a primary school history book published in Slovakia in early 90's, you could find there that almost every single person that ever invented anything was partially or entirely Slovakian, including Thomas Alva Edison.

I really don't understand the thing between Czech and Slovak. Maybe I'm just a dumb mixed Dutchy but you are living now in 2008 and not in the period 1940-1945.
You guys used to be one nation and i've been many times in both of your countries Czech Republic and Slovakia. Be proud of what you have because (besides of beautiful girls, etcetera) I think your countries are very beautiful, mountains, lots of green and nature.
You should make peace because this kind of discussions doesn't bring (the relation of) your countries in a positive spotlight for the outside world.
Gypsies are everywhere, we also have them here in the Netherlands. Here in our country we have even more races who are outcasted by the general population. But remember not everybody is the same and have the same attitude even within races. You can not stereotype race just because there are rotten apples.

In my fathers motherland, Indonesia the people from our islands (Timor and the Moluccan) are killing each other just because of their religion while in the past they were brothers. The sad thing is that Indonesian Islam government supports and stimulates this religious hidden war.
About countries, individuals who kissed the nazis asses in the 2nd WW, here in the Netherlands there were also many of them. My Dutch grandfather was even arrested in 2nd WW by Dutch Nazis while he was doing an armed robbery to steal food for the poor people in Amsterdam (the resistance). Those mtfkrs send him to Germany where he was forced to work in a Germany ammunition factory for 3 years and was almost killed.
Be happy there is so much diversity in our world and that people and individuals are all different.
People always go where they can have a better future/salary thats why we have here in Holland an invasion from different kind of new EU countries.

But the tension was always there, and there still is, it's a problem that's not spoken about, but you may want to ask people next time when you come for a visit and they will confirm my words, even we are at GFY, I don't feel entitled to talk bullshit.
The thing is - Czechs and Slovaks are totally different nations, totally different mentalities, totally different worlds, I don't know who came up with the idea that they ever should be a part of one state.
Czechs are in general of a colder, more quiet nature, reserved - more of a German type of personality, lots of difference between regions, eastern Moravia and Northern Bohemia are my favourite ones, Prague and Northern Moravia the worst ones.
It's also an industrial country that was always a motor of the former Austrian Hungarian empire.
Slovakians are loud, extrovert, tempered - more of a Balkan type of mentality.
I mean Bratislava is nice and you can find hospitality in couple of other places over there, but also more nationalism and narrow minded redneck attitude than anywhere else.
It's also very much an agricultural country its industry realistically started once they became a part of one state.
Honestly, there was never ever any other reason than economy that would make Slovakia want to be a part of the common state, they always wanted an independence but they never wanted to loose a dime.
In a recent survey, 15 years after the countries parted ways - 70 pct. of all Slovakians would want to live in a common state again, so they declared independece, voted for a totally idiotic populist government, then once they finally had a progressive government they again immediately voted for populists, and once they are short of money, they would want to come back.
