Took all my home DVDs and put them on Server

I have been wanting to do this. Add all of my "entertainment" content to my NAS, and then connect my whole house to the NAS. What is the easiest way to rip DVDs and Blu-ray's?

I've been slowly but surely rebuying my whole movie collection using Amazon Instant Video.

I got a pogoplug to try to do that. works great for music but no way to watch them over the roku. what software did you use to rip them and watch them in your home theater room?

For the media server I am using Plex. It displays on Samsung devices (TVs and DVD Players with smart hub) and PS3. Also the app was cheap to buy for my phones and tablets.

To Encode, I used a automated ripping machine with a mechanical arm to do the DVDs. Most people will not have that so any PC will work, just need to install ANYDVD (decrypts the DVDs), drab and drop the VIDEO_TS folder that is on the DVD into a folder by the title name IE Act Of Valor, (SD Titles). After that, drag that entire folder into Handbrake (Encodes to MP4).

For Bluray, have to have Bluray player in PC. Same AnyDVD. But grad the Stream Folder. This is where all the m2ts files are. Then I just took those m2ts files with and joined them as one large m2ts file (You can encode this if you want it to be smaller to save on storage). I cannot recall what I used for this but you can google it. I think it was Emicsoft m2ts converter.

That is it. After that just copy the mp4 or m2ts files to where you have Plex looking. Plex will bring in the matadata and covers.

Plex also does your music and photos as well.

(but the music interface is shit as fuck)

And just before i got rid of most my dvd's.

It does not bother me about the music. They are suppose to be adding a playlist function which is all that is missing that I care about.

Just have to have Smart Hub which is on most 2011+ TVS and players. I had one TV that did not so bought a $112 DVD player to solve that.
