Any recommendations? Right now we're using JPGraph and the images you can make SUCK!

Needs to run server-side and make some really pretty graphs

Any particular reason why it needs to be serverside? Now days jQuery based graphing tools make some crazy graphs.

High Charts does crazy graphs and shit, and they have an export to PDF and many other formats. http://www.highcharts.com/demo/ click the 3 lines menu item at top right to see.

Thanks, but that's still front end.

It's not an easy task to find something, looks like we'll need to develop something custom... Ugh!

Essentially what we are doing is storing data, similar to a MySQL db. Then based on the request, we generate a report with data and graphs, but the way it's done, the system creates almost an HTML page then saves it to a PDF

phpchart looks like just php wrapper for html5 canvas

if you want a real plotting app then you can try something like gnuplot

I used this: http://teethgrinder.co.uk/open-flash-chart/ (Flash based)
and this http://www.pchart.net/ (GD libraly based) to integrate into my php powered script.
