Is there such thing as a race?

The term race was developed years ago before people knew about dna, and so on.

This is the time they thought if you had eyes wide apart you were going to be a criminal.

    So are people a race?

I mean is somone in china a different race to somone in the UK?

If not, then can anyone be a racist.

Surly people are prejudice and not racist.

But if you do say people are a race, then logicaly that means one race must be different to another, thus if one says one race is not a clever as another, then your not being a racist but rather putting forward an observation, which can be challanged. Its like saying the world is road then proving it so.

Hoever I personaly do not belive anyone is a race. The skin colour of a person is just that. Its like some people have red hair, this dose not make them a race.

If we are to belive the scientists we are all from Africa ans so we are of the same race (as in one sigle race of person).

Not sure if serious, but ..... here goes:

There are distinct genetic differences between the races. In some cases they are used to identify DNA evidence. It is well documented that some races are more susceptible than others to certain ailments, and that some races excel in certain conditions. It is well documented that some races have different large muscle structure, and bone structure, and other observable physical differences.

Since the theorized exit of Homo Sapiens from Africa, there has been proven genetic mixing with extinct humans; in non-African populations, with Homo Neanderthalensis, leaving a 1-4% genetic signature; in African populations an admixture with an as yet undetermined archaic human ancestor, perhaps Erectus or Ergaster. Melanesians have a higher percenatage of Denisovan admixture. Khoi and San peoples have little to none at all. East Asians have distinct observable genetic differences that lead some scientists to conclude that there were multiple regions in which modern humans evolved.

There are genetic differences, and they manifest frequently and observably. Culturally, does that make a difference? Probably not. Race is not a construct, it exists at a scientific granularity. The granularity at which you choose to perceive it is your choice. That doesn't mean that anyone can't contribute to any culture. The differences between humans are small, and humans are very adaptable.
