my boyfriend still opens the passenger car door for me every time even after 2.5yrs of dating. It is just classic pride.
But nowadays it seems to be more of a European thing than anything else...Comment

There are still people who do it. I do it, but it's more of a habit now than anything else. My parents taught me that was the proper way to do it. First time I brought a date home I didn't do it when we went out to a movie later and I got a big lecture about it. Haven't missed a door since.Comment

doesnt that feel extremely weird that wherever you go, he gets out first, you keep sitting in the car until he opens your door. If i was a girl who has to depend on someone else to get out the car id feel like a moron.Comment

That's abnormal. I never had someone have to open the passenger door for me, that's strange. I mean if I'm sitting there already, all I gotta do is pull the handle and open it myself. Expecting a guy to open the passenger door is taking it way too far. I actually think its strange. I don't like it.
I'm happy as long as someone doesn't slam the fucken door in my face so it hits me and knocks me over.Comment

Isn't that kinda boring after 2.5 years? I only do it on "special" events.
Btw. I bet he does that to get rewarded with sex

That's basically what it boils down to. It's not about "equality". I have arms and I can definitely open my own doors, but it's more a sign of good manners, upbringing, and respect. I also wouldn't refuse to date someone if they didn't do it.
My dad always opened doors and pulled out chairs for any/all females with him. And he even stood if a female got up from the table. I will admit I'm not big on the standing thing, and if we're getting out of the car I'm probably going to go ahead and get out instead of waiting for someone to walk around. Although I have waited before just to see what would happen.
But it's always nice to see a guy who opens the car door for you first, or pulls out your chair at a restaurant and waits for you to sit. And it doesn't necessarily depend on upbringing. I know guys from shitty families who still had good manners. If I had a son I'd definitely teach him about the door/chair thing.War National Damn Champions EagleComment

Being a gentlemen is a pastime as much as females acting like proper women. Woman curse like whores, sleep around like men do, drive cars unlike in the past, and pretty much most of them dont deserve a man opening every door for them, nor do they expect it. I personally do it from time to time, but times have changed and most women are so independant its almost and insult to them. Women want to fight wars, drive race cars, box, mma, all that shit, well then open your own fucking door.No doubt one may quote history to support any cause, as the devil quotes scripture.

hehe you guys fail to understand, it's not really FOR the women, it's for your OWN sake of "classiness" in front of others eyes. The fact that women today curse and such shouldn't stop you from showing that YOU have class.Comment

I still don't see why it = good manners.
Who said it means that it's good manners ?
How about a woman opening a door for a guy ?
What do women do for guys which = good manners ?? (apart from suck cock)Comment

It's called Proper Etiquette. Some believe in it, some dont. So it's hit or miss these day's whether it'll make a good impression, no impression, negative impression. And that is a shame. Things like etiquette are what used to seperate the scum from the well mannered and you were judged on such things socially.
Have things improved since such things declined? The jury is still out, but I know I see and hear some of the most foul mannered, foul mouthed punks in my lifetime in more recent times.
I mean hell, if you are 40 then you must remember the days when an incoming phone call went like this:
Hello?
Hi, this is <blank>, is <blank> at home? I'm calling regarding <blank>.
Contrast that with a phone call I got yesterday:
"Hello?
Hello is Thomas there?
Who's calling please?
I'm calling for the person who pays the phone bill.
... And who are you?
I'm trying to save you money on your monthly phone bill.
Listen, you've said that already. I am asking what your name is, and what company you represent. If you can tell me those things, maybe I wont hang up on you."
Then they guy told me the name of whatever company he was working for and went into a sales pitch, where I interrupted him and asked how much a month, which was higher than I pay now anyway. Just plain fucking rude is how things have gotten. Fail.43-922-863 Shut up and play your guitar.

The only woman I open the door for is my grandma.
I have done it in public and it seems to be appreciated more by the older women but not by the younger ones.Comment

if you are referring to the time he did not hold the door open for Hillary, it was because he noticed her cock, while she pegged her BillyBoi through the entrance. And we all know that she is no lady! She is the devil!Comment

ditto, if people are going into or coming out of a building and I'm there going in or going out, I open the door to let others thru first. It makes no difference if it's a man or woman
What I'll never understand are those that don't reciprocate with a simple "thanks", but oh well.
I rarely open the car door unless it's a formal occassion or a guest. It's not practical (I never make my bed either) and is a bit over the top IMO, maybe because I wasn't raised doing it. I extend plenty of civil courtesies in my relationships with women to forego this. I've tried the whole thing where I open the car door before and after and it felt wierd. I mean, is the girl I'm dating the Queen of England or something? No, she's the same girl that tossed my salad a half hour earlier and I gave her oral too. We're equals.
Of course, in a restaurant, I'll wait for the woman to be seated and I'll order after her or order for her if she requests.
Some of this stuff is formality that is taught while others are more easily observed behavior and comes about by being conscientious toward others. For example, I don't know the proper order that my fork, spoon, and knife are supposed to be laid out on the table but this is trivial.Last edited by Drake; 02-26-2008, 10:05 AM.Comment

guys used to test women if after being let in in the car first, the woman will open the guys door then from inside
but well since today in most cars opening the passenger door, opens also the driver's door, not many men can use this method anymore
