I was thinking the same thing. It is one thing to ask them to move the truck then when they say they want to use it as a shield from traffic that makes perfect sense. You have to wonder what kind of day that guy was having to make him think this was a good idea.

You do realize that if someone is going to mug you and pop a couple caps in your ass, that they are just going to do it, and there probably isn't going to be a cop right there to save the day, right? Here is the difference. If there were no cops. I mean zero cops. We would have one of two things happening. Either total anarchy or marshal law. Maybe you think that people would carry guns and protect themselves in some kind of old west romantic way, but if there was no law enforcement there is nobody to stop people from bashing your door in, killing you and your family and taking everything from your house. Why wouldn't they, there are not cops to arrest them, without any type of law enforcement why even have laws? It wouldn't be long before we looked like some of these fucked up third world countries with warlords owning and running certain areas.
I'm not saying everyone would do this, most people probably wouldn't, but those that would do these types of things would have very little resistance.
You are right, there are not cops around everyone 24/7 and you are not guaranteed anything. You could get shot walking into a store, but the idea that the police are around and if you commit a crime you may well get caught and punished helps to curb the amount of crime that actually exists. If you have not cops and no threat of ever getting caught or punished for doing a crime, things would get very ugly very quickly.Comment

In New York city there is a nortorious beef between fire and police about who
has ultimate authority over the sceen when both arrive and tempers have flared big time. Happens in many other cities too.
For example :
Suspect in a house with a gun sets it on fire and the fire department wants to go into the house to put the fire out but the cops say no because they are going in to shoot it out with the suspect. The fire department says cops
can't go in because the building is on fire and only fire fighters can go in.

I read a story about it. The Capitan said he was told to move the truck so they could open up another lane of traffic. he told the cop he wanted to leave it where it was to protect everyone from traffic. The cop pressed him, he told the cop he wasn't going to move it so the cop arrested him. How accurate that is I don't know, that is just what he says.Comment

I would think the cop just opened himself and his boss up to a huge lawsuit from the accident victim. Nothing like obstructing medical care to a citizen in need. Most cops were abused as children one way or the other and they take it out in power trips when they get older.
