    Home prices in your area....

How much have they decreased in the past year?

What does an average 4 bedroom house (detached) cost in a suburb where you are located?

the cost of the homes in my area are steadily going UP. they have not decreased at all. ( Cancun Mexico ) This area is unlike most of the realestate world in that aspect. It does not rely on the US for money, although it gets a HUGE boost from the tourists.

You can buy a condo ON the water here for 250k and up. at the same time, you can get a house with a 440sq Meter lot and house for the 400k range. not near the water.

I just bought a 5 bedroom place, although we only opted make 3 of them bedrooms for less than 160. Not a bad deal.

The average place in Toronto would probably be about $400K

13.1% down in Los Angeles over the last year. But Santa Monica where I live has probably declined more as it increased more during the bubble years.

They will remain high in certain areas because (well-paid) jobs / (rich) folks + (slave) immigration= real estate inflation.

Still going up where I am, but I'm in a resort town where it's mostly retirees from Atlanta paying in cash or folks from FL wanting a mountain house as a vacation home. The only foreclosure in my subdivision I've seen since I moved here 7 years ago was a builder home and that's because the idiot built it with vinyl siding when every other home is wood or stone (the HOA no longer allows vinyl ;) ).

Houses ARE staying on the market longer though because the folks in FL are hurting (about 75% of the vacation homes here are owned by Floridians). My neighbor's home in Naples has gone down in value and their business income down almost 80% - what they manufacture is sold to upper class new homes and redesigns and apparently that market is really hurting in FL.

Average price in my neighborhood is about $250K for a standard 1400-1800 sq ft home (the smallest you can build is 1200 sq ft) on 1/3-1/2 acre, no view or water frontage with one of the larger homes (4K sq ft with 7 acres of land) on the market for $800K and a whole lot in between.

When I moved here 7 years ago the average price for all the homes combined was $200K. Back then you could buy a house on the small end with no view/water frontage for less than $100K.

Now they are talking about building a big industrial park in town. It will be interesting to see if that will raise or lower the property values.

Up here in the country you could buy a nice 4 bedroom for about 90k, and have some acres also

4 bedroom houses in my area go for anywhere from a million to 1.5 million.. Decreased about 10-15% in the last year and a half.

In Sacramento, CA I think houses depreciated for about a full quarter or fifth of their value.

A 4 bdr in my little suburb, Fair Oaks, tends to go for around 400,000 where last year they were half a million to 600K.

Mine was evaluated at 467K a little over a year ago... If I sold it now it'd go for mid 200s. Good thing I don't need to sell, huh?

A nice house in my neighborhood is around million dollars, it has decreased but not much.

We need a major earthquake in order to get a major decrease in prices
