There's actually a big difference between the Mountianeers and Explorers - you can't get a Mountianeer with 4WD, only AWD which means you have no 4WD low. I wanted a Mountaineer because of the nicer materials and colors (IMHO) and longer warranty, but I have to have 4WD low.
A better comparison would be the Mazda Tribute and the Ford Escape.
