I have used numerous sites like expedia, hotels, even airbnb
some are better, some are ok, but it mostly means you KNOW where you go and nothing gives you a perspective of your stay, 3 lousy room pics and fake testimonials so when I plan a trip with kids, first i need it to be budget then comfortable, then I want to know abouts the place im coming to.
Cus you know flying a low cost seems doable but hey then you need to know if it takes a cab or bus ride to the place, eventually you arrive, its late, the hotel manager is away and there is no Starbucks / Olimp / McDonalds ,you name it, around.
So: a Trip planner where I could see my alternatives: low cost flights / car ( own/rental ), stay ( hotel/apartment ), shops around, beach views.... so i could tell my wife, see, here is how we could do it. So we could have some preliminary local experience to minimize the shock when we arrive.
And that could be seen on the web site presented in a contemporary manner, say, like on this real estate website:
