I just woke up and I just got off the horn with my technician.
Yes. It is down right now. But we are rebooting the server.
It appears that a site or some sites is now getting a HUGE amount of traffic every hour so we are optimizing things for this... t's a little more than we anticipated this early in the game.
Anyone that thinks I would just pull the plug on a service that's gone months of development into (for no reason and with no public announcement), does not know how I operate - those that do would never think so.
Naturally I apologize for this. Any issues with site creation or user registration that you might experience right now are load problem related.
All resources are now being put into fixing this and I actually have an extra brand new and powerful server (that was about to use for something else though!) standing in the same datacenter so if this load problems continue and we cannot optimize our way out of it, we'll utilize that to share it.
Hang tight, we are on the motherfucker

Oh I didn't think you pulled the plug but it was down for a long time. Maybe your technician needs to keep a closer eye on it. I don't know if this is related but a few hours before there was a mysql error when try to connect to the server. I thought maybe it had been cracked - which might have resulted in people losing all their work. THAT was what I meant in my original post.
I think that it would be a good idea to provide some way for users to backup their blogs (even if for a fee) in case of an even more disastrous event in the future.. It should be a big priority imo.Last edited by zipppy; 05-19-2013, 04:44 AM.Comment

You do know that it's a weekend right? and the server outage was in the middle of the night EU time (where we all are located, even though the servers are in Canada).Oh I didn't think you pulled the plug but it was down for a long time. We have backups. Of course. The irony of all this is that this all started with a mail server not getting mail and has now spread to several servers having problems, including the database server of easyxsites. It's quite a nightmare, but we'll get it all worked out.
Thank you for your patience.But.... I pulled out...Comment

Yes I believe that we owe some 50 webmasters their verification e-mails, we'll generate all of that once we get things back on track for more than an hour at a time.
This is not the way we wanted to spend our Sunday lol, I was out riding downhill mtb yesterday for the first time this year so I should be vertical on some couch right now

That doesn't matter. It's always the middle of the night somewhere on the planet. In America it was down ALL Saturday night from early evening to late into the night. I'm not saying you are not doing your best but maybe you need some help.
This is why your backups are not sufficient. IF the box gets cracked (and it probably will at some point) the same thing can happen with your backups. They can be poisoned. I personally think it would give your clients a lot more confidence IF they were able to make their own backups. Again, not that I don't think you guys are doing your best but after this episode the fact that I can't make my own backups makes me leary of putting much more work into the structure of my site. I also realize it is a free service but presumably you have a business model that makes it profitable so that SHOULD have no impact on whether or not users are able to backup their work. I am not suggesting that ppl be able to backup an entire tube site and all the content - that is more or less plug and play but the blogs can potentially be very labor intensive (I know mine is/was)Comment

Backups are safe. Yes things can be cracked, but we are not stupid enough to store the backup on the same server, please have a little faith. That doesn't matter. We are in beta, so if you want 100% stability and up time, wait until we are out of beta. This is what testing is for, this, you could call a load test. We failed. So we try over and improve, so when we go live and load is 10x this, we might not fail.
Yes. We are working on it. Expect it to be up and down all day today, so no need to post asking if it is.
We are as annoyed at this as you all are. We are working to fix it. We will work until it's fixed.But.... I pulled out...Comment

What would be the reason to NOT have functionality allowing users to back up their own site? I would see it as a good selling point.Comment

This is not the hosts problem. It's our problem. It's all related to the database server. There are two people working on it (I am obviously not one of them, as I'm not a technician).
But our servers are with OVH. This one is the biggest they offer I think. Not that it a hardware issue.
We'll be back in business soon

Don't sweat it. It's a learning experience. No business online is perfect. Shit happens. Ignore the haters, they've never ran anything worthwhile in their lives.Comment
-
Obviously YOU have never run a web server or online business expecting someone not to sweat all this downtime. An outage like this is a disaster for an internet service provider of any kind that'll probably set them back weeks, if not months.Comment

I remember telling MARKUL many days ago, publicly in this forum that the server and his service had some MySql issues... I noticed this long ago, when I tried to test his service. You can search my previous posts. This was like 2 weeks ago?.. or more maybe.
Perhaps he added me to his "ignore list" too and just ignored my message? Because the messages I posted in this forum referring to him, are hardly answered by him.
It looks like he tries to look like a "cool guy" with a "cool mind" and just ignore people... But in the long term, it's really not a good strategy to avoid problems.Comment

Nope, never.
Or maybe because GFY isn't his support ticket system?I remember telling MARKUL many days ago, publicly in this forum that the server and his service had some MySql issues... Boy you really are a fountain of cluelessness. They actually do not have one. In fact, [email protected] was recently bouncing mail for almost a week before someone raised it on the forums and it got fixed.Comment

We have a forum where you can post. I went to bed at 2 AM last night, I can't sit here day and night.Boy you really are a fountain of cluelessness. They actually do not have one. I don't recall that and I don't really want to sit and search your post history, I have better things to do. Especially since today is a national holiday and I have shit planned.
And I am not avoiding problems at all and if you asked me something and was ignored, I apologize.
I don't try to look like anything, I am what I am. I ignore people I don't like or that are known scammers on GFY (so I know not to do business with them), if people come to my support forum they will not be ignored regardless of who they are here, there they are customers.
It appears that the core system is up, but my demo tube and blog are down - there might be other sites with problems too. I also think more stuff is broken, but priority was to get everyones sites up. Load is still way to high, but my guys will test and keep working on this until we get things stabilized.
All of this requires a lot of scrutiny, I don't know wtf went wrong right now, but we will figure it out.
Such is the life of building new stuff, it sucks that things were down for so long - but we all try our best and that's good enough for me. If it's not for you, feel free to watch for a public announcement that we are out of beta and return to our service then.
To those who think I am "avoiding things", be advised that I will not be reading this thread again until tomorrow as I will be out all day.
If your site is down or strange, please post it in our support forum.
Thank you and have a great Monday everyone.Last edited by Markul; 05-20-2013, 12:31 AM. Reason: I just got up, can't really construct sentences... apparentlyBut.... I pulled out...Comment

I never claimed that you did not. The poster I was responding to was claiming you had a support ticket system - which is not the case. BTW - the forum was ALSO down for a long period of time during the outage which is the whole reason this thread was started in the first place.Comment

Another funny thing, easyxsites visitors count shows I hat 300 uniques while my site was dead. Weird.Comment
