Is there a fuel filter on the fuel line, because what you are describing sounds just like a dirty fuel filter. When there is no pressure on the line fuel gets through. As fuel pressure increases dirt in the filter gets pushed into position where it blocks the flow and the engine cuts out. Pressure falls back down and the dirt slides back and fuel can flow again so it starts right back up on the next pull.
