I'm new to this, and lost in how to promote a site...

I have just started working for a website, and the owner wants me to promote it, however I don't really know where to start.

The idea the owner has is to get lots of e-mail addresses for other websites, and send them e-mails, which I think is tantamount to spamming... And as a fairly new site, I think that it doesn't have the reputation to be able to go around just sending random e-mails to people.

Any ideas would be greatly received...

The site is a pay site, with the affiliation through CCBill.

I don't really know anything about the adult market, and from the 'mainstream' websites I have worked on in the past, the whole idea of promotion, the owner has seems wrong.

Do people actually take notice of the unsolicited e-mails in this sector, or is it the same as other website owners? Just send the mail to SPAM Land?

I think in a lot of cases unsolicited e-mails are a step in the wrong direction. The last think you need is bad publicity before you're off the ground.

In terms of what does work, though, I'm afraid I'm not of much use. Unfortunately that's something I don't have too much experience in.

That having been said this probably isn't a bad place to start promoting. This is one of the best places to come to get your site off the ground, so maybe throw up a link and take things from there?

That sounds like fair advice! Thank you Tumek.

I'll have a look around, and then find the place where it seems the best to place the link for affiliation.

Anyone know the best place to start?

are you supposed to do all the promo yourself or is an affiliate program an option?

if you're doing it yourself, research things like submitting galleries, submitting links, building free sites, & light SEO (should look into this under any circumstance though)

if you can do affiliate program, do some research on starting a small, manageable revshare program, which CCBill is great for

              do next

Go with submitting to TGP, make affiliate partner program, signup for toplists, make sitemap and submit to SE, seek for same niche websites and ask for link exchange. Maybe buying little traffic is not bad idea, to drive to toplist you make.

The SEO, not a problem, with the background I have in websites (I have already started on that, but as other people think that their way is better when they have no experience, it is a up hill task!)

The affiliation programme, well the website has one for CCBill, it is trying to plug this that is the problem I face here. Or did I misread you there FlexxAeon, and was it meant to reference a larger type of affiliation?

here's a little help with the link: www.nenablue.com

the site looks good. and judging by a quick glance at it, the models/content is looking good as well.

keep an eye on the main "fucking around" forum, as there are always people looking for solo models and niches to promote. jump in there and hit them with your URL whenever you can (once you can post URL's )

there are also a lot of webmaster resource sites that list affiliate programs. referralmatrix pops into mind.

aside from that, there are many ways to plug the program. reading webmaster sites & lurking the boards you'll learn quite a bit

                            Thank you again FlexxAeon!

I am spending lots of time looking around the boards, mainly to try and learn the language, and see whats the things I could be doing better for promotion.

I've just worked out the conversion ratio for sending e-mails out blindly to people, and from the figures it is 0.043% sign-up ratio, which turns in to about 1 affiliated webmaster for every 24 unique addresses found and sent to. To me, that is not a good promotion method!

Site looks good, but if you really have to ask how to promote it, you'll never be successful. </my 2 cents>

I think that first index page is like an empty canvas for SEO...there is endless areas there for heavy keyword promotion. Also Id bulk out the 'alt' tags on the images. Each one only uses one key term..that isnt really adult site fodder. Off the affiliate prog as suggested. Start promoting using TGP submits etc. ALl very good ways to get the traffic in..but you need to "sell" it. Text is key, just having photo samples will not get the members..have to hand feed the surfer as to whats the sites about, what they'll get WHY nenablue.com is the place they wanna slap down the cash for, rather than the next site.
