I buy a Whitman's sampler for my fuck of the week and that's it. It's a "holiday" completely manufactured by the greeting card industry. It means absolute shit.

Is the bank and post office are still open, it is no longer a holiday.

We normally do something romantic such as dinner out but, this year will be spent knee deep in packing paper and boxes.

hell if i know whats going down this year, and i doubt ill be surpised in any way whatsoever....so there no plans. im tired of all the holidays where I have to make plans, i love valentines day but for the past couple of years its just been bs.

usual flowers etc. nothing too much. I just paid for a dozen roses from a local place and jesus prices have went up.

My wife and I had her first date on Valentine's Day, so it's like a fucking holiday here. In fact, our daughter's middle name is Valentine. It's like Christmas but worse!

So sounds like most of you don't really go all out for it. (and even hate it)

But isn't it kind of fun? Especially when you are just meeting someone new, or in the beginnings of a relationship.
And when you were a kid, the cheap Valentines Day cards you gave out in class... that was always fun!

I think its a great way to take out that special person for an all out weekend (especially if it falls on a weekend), but when your single, it does make people bitter too.

The holiday coincided with a shin-dig in San Francisco I'm attending, so we decided to make a little vacation out of it this year...

Flying out to San Fran Friday morning to spend a romantic weekend in the Bay area... the festivities include a fine dining 4 course Chocolate and Beer dinner... a bus trip up to Wine Country... and Irish Coffees on the bay. Also bought her the soundtrack and DVD for "Once"... a movie we both thoroughly enjoyed.

And I keep joking with her, since it arrived last week, that this was an early Valentine's Day gift:

While Valentines day goes back to 486A.D., the tradition of sending written Valentines started back in 1400s

I always enjoyed trying to tell the girl I had a crush on that I wanted her by giving her those candy hearts and a fun little valentine...although I did learn at a young age that massaging a girls feet without her permission is inappropriate.
