GARDNER, Mass. ? A Gardener man was arrested Saturday, accused of breaking into the home of a 70-year-old man.
Police told the Telegram and Gazette that the property owner was home when Timothy Adams, 24, broke into 71 Waterford St. early Saturday morning.
The homeowner called police after hearing noise in his backyard and someone break his door at about 2:30 a.m.
The resident, whose name was not released, grabbed and beat the man and held him until police arrived, the paper reported.
The resident told police the man, who lives at 254 Waterford St., told him he had the wrong house and offered him money to let him go.
Adams was charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime to commit a felony and destruction of property. He was released on personal recognizance. He will return to court on June 26.
