Some sites use cms that encode at a certain rate when you upload them and spit them out into different versions...I am uploading with 15K to 25K mpg but some guys are taking 3K to 1.5K wmv and using those and those are being re encoded again.
Most companies just have licences to low grade encode over time they will become more obsolete...
Those with masters can push ahead.
I just started shooting 1920x1080p and I can say what quality differnce over the 1440x1080i quality is visually better by almost 10x...so by the time you re encode them they still look crisp and clear with all details.
Most of the guys are still shooting HDV and some still in SD.
To each their own.
