    Does this piss you off???????

    < BODY onunload=rand_link() >
    Ive had this on my sites for awhile. It's not a malicious code, just when you exit the site this code opens a new window to another site at random.
    I wont allow links with sites that are full of pop/ups/unders and shit that generaly makes viewing a page a pain in the ass but i've never really had a problem with sites that have exit shit like this. I've always thought of it as a last chance to turn a surfer on to something new, and a good way to get hits to other sites.
    Most computers have the software to block this anyhow. So what do you guys think? does doing this make any major difference? or does it just make me look bad? I know surfers dont seemed to be bothered by it. I get alot of return traffic.

    Its not a good idea in my opinion, when the surfer decides to close a site it should close and that is it.

      I agree with that........lately ive just been wondering if its something other webmasters look down upon. I'm sure that if you closed the site and 3 or four other sites loaded it would be, but my main concern is weather or not this tactic is more or less working against me, as opposed to for me.
      Thanks for the input, lbc213

        My opinion (not suggesting it counts for much ) If I was going to a different site and this came up then I would just presume it was that sites pop-up and blame them.

        The downside is what if someone is looking at the site on the sly, girlfriend walks up stairs, tries to close browser down, new even more pornographic window opens.

        Bad Times.

          Yeah what if his mom comes into the room and he closes the window but then there are dozens of new porn sites popping up, owned and he won't visit your site ever again ;)

            I agree with everyone above. Pop-ups and audio ads (those damn "win a free iPod Nano" come to mind) are always at the bottom of any usability studies we've done. When someone's leaving, they're done. An on exit event is the last think someone would likely want to see.

            Bob's having enough trouble pulling his pants up when his boss walks in, let alone having to close a new pop window...

                        Exit popups sucks more! Reason is they are like a salesman who gets hold of you when you are trying to walk out of a store. In my opinion they do piss visitors off.

                          ya, pop-ups/unders aren't good for any reason. most sites use them thinking the visitor isn't iterested in what they are viewing so they try to offer them something else to sell them. the problem is, maybe they are interested and bookmarked the first site with the intention of returning on payday. the pop-up might be enough to piss them off and prevent them from returning.
