Im sick of $200 cameras, and i wanna have better pics, so i heard that these 2 come as the next level, start up pro cameras, just family prints, views, portraits. Ive been using Nikons for years, so im more or less convinced to buy D40, but some people say Canon is a pro choice. Just about any DSLR should be able to do HDR.
Do you have large hands? The Canon 350D (there's also a 400D out which is actually the current model) is quite small. I can't offer you any comparison with the Nikon D40 because I've never held it.Comment

Iv got a Nikon D50 and love it, the D40x is 10mp while the normal D40 is 6mp.
You should go for the D40x.
Mind you its small, but very compact.
