The ones that take their religious books as historical and scientific fact, yes they are pretty stupid. The funny thing is the less a person takes their religious text seriously the more well educated they generally are. For instance most modern theistic scholars don't believe Adam and Eve were real people but you can find plenty of rednecks in the deep south of America that will tell you the garden of Eden was a real place and that Adam and Eve were the first two humans that god created. They believe in the rib theory.

Lets remember the newest religious text we have is the Qur'an which is about 1400 years old. Next is the bible, 2k to 5k. Unless you want to talk about Mormonism and other offshoots of Christian thinking which are generally crazier than early religions in their beliefs.
