I haven't driven a car for many years now. Once several years ago (after my drivers license had expired though) I went to buy some beer. The temp girl asks for my ID so I give it to her so she can see I'm in my 40's and she says "Sorry it's expired." I said so what? It's still valid state ID, I just can't drive anymore. Which is in fact the truth according to the government. Naturally a more experienced person had to come correct the newbie.

Of course this doesn't mean anything in regards to a payment processor or whatever, but basically "expired" ID's aren't usually invalid as ID's. Only invalid for the activity they were issued for. I'm sure the expiration date is more of rough guide, like changing smoke detector batteries when daylight savings time happens.
