BUSINESS THREAD: Member's area photo sizes?

On my own site I give my members zip files of the original size out of the camera and then a different zip file of 1024 size. A few members have told me that they'll download the 1024 zip as a "preview" while the larger zip file is downloading.

By "original size" I mean the resolution is 3000x2000 approx, which is the size of a RAW out of my camera, but I've still compressed them and made them jpg's.

we offer two sizes for most of our sites (1280 and 1024). I really dont see the point of offering sizes much bigger than that.

Offer multiple sizes, but choose the default size automatically based on users resolution.

I think, the pic should fill the entire screen... more and more surfers now a days have 1680x1050 resolution or higher, so having pics around 1600 or more is probably a good bet... vids now a days should probably be 720p minimum...

Not only does it have to do with the size of your screen. A lot of members enjoy zooming in on the pics. 2000px+ photos give you super detail and make for a nice crisp image.

i think 1500 x 1000 with watermark is enough. everything else just ends up as stolen content in magazines or adverts

We offer a variety of sizes up to 4000px
Members love the full size pics...yeah you have to scroll but it is great to see a pussy up close and larger than life ;)

I agree, huge pictures are very annoying to myself and tons of surfers. Whats the point of looking at pics when all you can see is part of of the picture having to scroll.

yep, mine are 800x600 but shot tight so you have only model in it not a bunch of misc bullshit.Never got a complaint.

Depends on which type of site you run.
If it's only the usual non-exclusive make-money-quick site, you will probably not bother with high resolution images.

Right now most people are running 1024 x 768 Think about the size of all the images on your site and/or the banner sizes used to promote you. My "fucking around" computer in my bedroom, is an AlienWare with a brand new Samsung 19 inch monitor screen. This little rig in my bedroom cost $4,885 (tower and monitor) It's not as nice as my machine in my office, but it's still way more shit than the average surfer is using by a long shot. And my max resolution is 1280 x 1024
But I run at 1024 x 768 because most horizontal banners are 468 x 80 which already looks small at 1024 x 768 If I were to run my max res it would be so small I couldn't even read it. And everyones' precious sig banners on GFY would look like specs of dust.
I suggest you keep your pics in that 1000 to 1600 range for the high res pics. I use 1152 x 768 for mine and it fills the screen and still has scroll bars on the sides and bottom (keeping in mind that nobody runs "full screen" most times and have toolbars and address bars, etc. to deal with)
Just make sure they are saved at maximum settings so they aren't compressed too much. Mine clock in anywhere from 600 to 900 KBs each according to how much color is in the pic.
I've never had a single complaint from any member. I also offer vidcaps at 640 x 480 just for the hell of it for each scene. Members seem to like those too.

8000px?? At a 3:2 aspect ratio that would be a 42 megapixel image!

I've seen 6000px (24mp) on hegre archives, where are they advertising 8000px?

My opinion... offer more than one size, and prepare for the future: keep the original size so you can progressively update the largest size you offer as people's monitors grow (assuming it's not the native size)
