    Canceled or Cancelled?

    Your subscription was canceled.
    Your subscription was cancelled.

Which one is correct? If both are, which would you use?

Either work. I would go with two L's.

when in doubt about spelling a word, use google

google the two versions and then most likely the more popular is the correct one

edit: cancelled would be the one here using this example

        "got cancelled" Results 1 - 10 of about 379,000
        "got canceled" Results 1 - 10 of about 157,000

Been there, done that. But Google is not necessarily always "right", so I thought I'd ask.

Depends if you no longer have your subscription... If that is the case, then they are BOTH Correct...
If however your subscription is still active, then the are BOTH wrong...

Results 1 - 8 of 8 for "Your subscription was canceled".

I gave "Your subscription was ..." as an example...

I just wanna know which one to use when I email a customer that the subscription/membership is cancelled/canceled.

canceled is American English, whereas cancelled is British.
Depends on which version you choose. Just be consistent.

I think that's why he was asking. He's not a native English speaker, so even though both are correct, I assume he was trying to find out which one is the most common.

Colour is used in UK; Color is used in US.

Same thing with neighbor/neighbour, flavor/flavour, behavior/behaviour, etc. In the U.S., we use "or". You may notice that the Brits, Canadians, and Aussies on here use "our". We don't have that extra "u".

Check/cheque is another. Americans use the first one.

I also notice spelled/spelt on here a lot.

Although both are accepted, or now correct, the traditional spelling is cancelled!

It's the same as colour, flavour etc et cetera! Many English words were butchered by Americans.

If you use color, I suggest sticking with your accepting the incorrect form and use canceled.
