Google Earth used for IRS Investigation

The PISA branch of the "Agenzia delle Entrate", the Italian IRS, has used Google Earth to investigate 30 Businesses operating in the Boat docking/renting/ maintenance business off the coast of Tuscany.

Some of these operations were claiming a ridiculous amount of many ( on the low side) considering the size of the Businesses.

Therefore the investigators monitored the activities of these yards using Google Earth during a period of time and they were able to verify that the volume of business was not the one that some of these businesses declared.

Out of 30 operations 6 were found guilty and one of these 6 appealed the sentence saying that the Government Agency used illegal Investigation techniques. The guy lost.

I think this is a pretty interesting fact at least for Italy , i don't know if Google was used in other parts of the world for Investigations.

Some other european countries are using Google Maps or something similar to check if people have added any new buildings to their property/land, so property taxes can be increased and fines (+ possible jail time) thrown into the mix.

Tax is violence! And I fucking hope that people some day wakeup from their irrationally welfare state dreams, which is pushing tax and thereby violence upwards towards totalitarism.

Fuck state socialism - tax is violence

I wouldn't have thought the maps would be updated often enough to be useful. Some places it seems to be months or even years.

Wait for the day we get real time live video. Actually I'd like it with a 30 second delay, so I could run outside and wave and then by the time I got back to the PC I could see myself waving

The Argentinian government also used it to search for undeclared swimming pools, they fined a lot of people.

you'd think that governments had their own spy satellites that could update the photos on a whim, hell, or at least once a day.

Load up Google Eatch and before pressing anything else, hit Ctrl-Alt-A (or Ctrl-Windows-A if that doesn't work) to launch it.

I only found this out a couple of days ago, it doesn't quite match Flight Simulator, but pretty neat for something that's free.
