now seriously, the only one I've used is MediaWiki and it's really good. I don't have experience with any other so I couldn't tell if there's something betterThis post is endorsed by CIA, KGB, MI6, the Mafia, Illuminati, Kim Jong Il, Worldwide Ninjas Association, Klingon Empire and lolcats. I've only used Mediawiki on a few sites. The forum at http://www.mwusers.com/ was what I used to answer all my questions. It's been a while since I had an install but one of the first things you'll probably want to do is harden it up against spammers with a good captcha like recaptcha. There was a way to make it so anyone adding an url has to type in the captcha and this helped a bit.
Also if I recall correctly php APC made a big difference in performance with Mediawiki.
Mediawiki is very bulky but it has a lot of capabilities. It could be overkill if you are just planning on having a couple dozen regular registered users and contributors.
You don't like my posts? Put me on ignore or fuck right off. I'll say what I want.

this:
you should consider the use you're going to give to it, it's pretty overkill for small sites.
The good news is that if you're crafty and know how to edit the files, you can get something a less bulky. At the time I installed it for a client, I installed it as it came, but later they had someone else that "cleaned" the unused extensions and features.
If it was me, I'd use the default install, no extensions at all and go from there. Also, check this and see if it's of use for youThis post is endorsed by CIA, KGB, MI6, the Mafia, Illuminati, Kim Jong Il, Worldwide Ninjas Association, Klingon Empire and lolcats. Well, we have already decided that we will stick with approved editors and open it to the public later. It has a lot of potential; but thanks for the tips.I've only used Mediawiki on a few sites.
