Our healthcare system is in a bad way and getting worse. If something isn't done soon it will be in major trouble. Our leaders have sold us out to the pharmaceutical and insurance industries and seem to not care one bit.

I don't think if you are a Republican, Democrat or whatever your political affiliation it can effect you. Health care is an American problem. It is getting worst.

Check out this map showing which countries have some sort of Universal Health Care.

In the USA:

However, extending coverage to all who are eligible remains a fiscal challenge.[15]

Being the nation of fat asses that we are, I dont know if we could afford UHC, as easily as the other nations can. Most of them are a lot healthier than us, on average, because of their diets, and you know... they actually get up and walk places.

Either way, I have no confidence that our government can manage UHC correctly, and we'd all be worse off.

If you want UHC, convince your state government to do it, not the feds.

this country was a much better place when the prevailing attitude was "i'll take care of me and mine" and not "who's going to take care of me"

show me a family without health insurance and 9 times out of 10, they could also show you their designer jeans, cell phones, spinners, cable bill and 1000 other stupid things they blow their money on because they made those idiotic things a priority in their lives.

It is actually not them that is the main problem it is the people that have insurance and then get denied treatment because the insurance company doesn't want to pay it. Or is is someone like me who can't get insurance that covers my asthma (but will cover other things) so I have to pay for medicine out of pocket. One medicine I take costs $325 for a 90 day supply and that is if I get it from Costco everywhere else is $20-$40 higher. I can order the exact same medicine online from an overseas pharmacy and pay $90 for it. That is one of the ways we get screwed because we have no cap on how much they can charge for medicine. They can have pill the costs them $2 to make a 30 day supply of and they can charge $250 for it if they want.

i object to the generalizations. "problems with health care" - its not like you go to the emergency room and are denied care. health insurance is not overly expensive for those people who actually decide to make it a priority.

there are problems in certain areas that can be addressed without having this discussion that implies that the choice is strictly between socialized medicine or private medicine.

i think the "main problem" is in living in the worlds most litigious society. most everything else in our health care system is a symptom of that tragic fact. instead of fixing the core problems, people make a lame attempt to appeal to poor people with no concept of or concerns for how the world actually works and talk about "free" because its immensely appealing and requires no explanation.

personally, i think the discussions need to begin with tort reform... and then go from there.

and i agree with you on medicines, costs etc but those are also other issues that can be addressed outside of the discussion of "free health care" which actually means "YOU pay for MY health care"
