Sometimes Wikipedia sucks, most of the cool stuff about Vikings was concocted by Scandinavians in the 18th and 19th century, the hairy barbarians with horned helmets drinking from human skulls is myth.

But it's a fact that the Vikings were first to discover and settle North America, 500 years before Columbus. Typical Canadians, something as epic as Vikings settling in Newfoundland is barely known. Americans make a big deal of Vikings yet there's no evidence they made it south to what is now the United States.
