I think that's over-thinking it.
For hundreds of thousands of years humanity had nothing to do during long dark nights other than stare into a fire.
So at some point somebody imitated animals they heard during the day, birds they heard sing to pass time, then others joined in and bang you got the first band. Those first musicians got laid like mad, begetting the first groupies and music was born.
