My adult industry lawyer is trying to screw me. What to do?

    My adult industry lawyer is trying to screw me. What to do?

    So, I came to this SF firm that specializing in adult industry with a few concerns ( regarding 2257, etc. ). They said to put a retainer of $2,500 and that should probably do it for all of my questions. Now they have billed me for about $6,500 and never told me that they went over the "budget". Also, they never told me they had to do research on very common issues that the attorney should have known off the top of her head.

    What are my options?

              Misrepresentation, in that they made themselves out to be knowledgable and then turned around and billed for researching basic and common issues.

              Fuck these retards.
              I think that you MAY have to pay them and sue for damages.. if you don't win, you don't win... you don't pay, and if they get a judgement, that's bad news for you.. bad news... might apply some pressure by threatening to go above them to the powers that be, yea?

                  PS: I'm sure that verbal this and verbal that isn't good enough.. if the documentation says $x per x you'll probably lose this case.

                  So you're back to threatening to make noise.. crooks like them will usually be satisfied with the 2500 they fucked you out of, especially when they get one who they perceive to be a potential problem.

                      We're going to arbitration ( which is what the contract says ). Why would I lose if they basically researched the hell out of issues they should have known and didn't warm me about it? Plus, they told me the retainer was going to cover it.

                                  Does the contract state the retainer would cover the total bill? Does it state they'd notify you if you went over the initial retainer?

                                  Lawyers are very thorough, very detail-critical people. Unless you had asked them what your billings were out and they outright lied or witheld information, or unless the contract spells out your fees, it's not likely you have much wiggle room.

                                      Are you talking about "binding arbitration"? I've heard of that, alot of companies put that in the contract these days, yea? And it is paid for by the company itself, so, it usually goes their way... is that what it is?

                                      I'm just saying that the lawyers probably have everything written in for themselves and what they "said" or what they "should have known" really isn't going to make a huge difference.

                                      All they have got to do is go off citing the intricacy of this, that and the other thing and start in making claims that they had to research a specific this or that for your situation and $7500 comes fast.. $7500 / $500 = 15 hours

                                      I know it's a fucked thing that they've done, but, they also probably are well protected by the worthless legal system we've got in this country. From what I've heard, Cali law it varies wildly from the law in the other 49 states..

                                              In my country, when You order some service, if the price is 10% above ORDER, You need to be informed and asked for permission to go above budget. Without Your approve, they can't even ask for higher price.

                                              I think something like that has any law system (USA, CA, all around EU).

                                              And if Your lawyer try to screw You, tell him You're not HOMO.
